Well whatever he was saying he liked my post so maybe we agree, but devils advocate clubs still go bust even with FFP clubs still get billions in dept with FFP so what's the point of it I'll stick with the monopoly and protection of the "elite" rather than its for the greater good. FFP is designed to limit the level of debt. As a result it's actually quite rare for clubs to go into administration. Remove the constraints and the big boys will spend even more money than they do at the moment and the smaller clubs will either get left further behind or go bust engaging in a futile attempt to keep up. Those who believe scrapping FFP will level the playing field naively believe the big boys will voluntarily cap their own expenditure and allow others to catch up. That simply won't happen - they will just up the ante and drive their competitors out of business. If you don't get that you don't get how capitalism works. Football isn't a free market because a genuine free market doesn't have a problem with companies going bust. FFP is designed to stop the big fish from gobbling up the little fish by driving them out of business. The big fish want rid of FFP and an unfettered free market because they know full well they will be the ones who will come out on top. The only reason they have the inconvenience of having to compete with the little fish is because FFP prevents them from eradicating the competition through economic warfare. Remove FFP and that is precisely what they will do. If you want to understand what will happen keep an eye on Chelsea. They are currently £1billion in debt and trying desperately to get back into the big 6. Which is now a big 7 since Newcastle crashed the party and they also have the likes of Villa and Brighton making a challenge. To break back in they are going to have to find even more money because they are no longer competing in Europe which reduces their international exposure, reduces revenue and makes the best players think twice about going there. They are behaving exactly like a wannabe club in an FFP free league - spending money they don't have in a futile attempt to be back in with the big boys. If they don't get back in there in a couple of years they will go bust - or drive another club out of the top six and have them go bust instead. So basically you're advocating restrictions on investment to deny a wealthy lower league club from competing to stop a hypothetical club going bump. I'd rather a serious owner willing to spend his/her money be allowed to do so as they see fit. I admire your understanding of things financial but I'll get my interest out in the open I couldn't give a flying fuck about Chelsea or anyone else for that matter I'm a Stoke fan and at this moment in time we have owners who's wealth is being restrained to deny us the chance of success. I'm not sentimental I'm selfish I want progress and success and wins by hook or by crook and I don't care who else is in debt. Clubs survive in one form or another few cease to exist.

unless other costs, wage bill being the obvious one, has come down significantly? There are other costs to be deducted as well as Chiswick has said. Saleable assets we have now for anything like a half decent transfer fee ... Burger, Junior, Bae. That's about it and Bae is debatable. We're in a better position for sure but I don't think we'll be throwing money round like it's going out of fashion again. I may be reading it wrongly but these are Bet 365 accounts and include therefore the ground and stadium improvements. These are exempt from FFP are they not?

Plus academy and women’s costs and apparently could be boosted by when tv money falls due. Club accounts in May should provide a much clearer picture and the direction of the wage bill which has been talked about being limited to 70% of turnover. Don’t know whether that would be instead of or as well as current FFP rules.

Interesting to see the bid for Assante was £4m and not £2m as was reported at the time
That's encouraging as that £4m, at the very least, presumably is available now
If we can sell a player as hinted then we can add that to the pot for any striker

Or was it they wanted £4-5m and we bid £2m🤷♂️ Who knows. I can’t remember what I did yesterday.

It seemed to be very much the case that he was ours for the taking if we were prepared to up it into that kind of territory? And maybe paying Neil off, and the Schuey compo, has shrunk the kitty a bit.

I would imagine post Neil and with Schuey coming in, the kitty will not be great this window, certainly making talk of Whittaker very far fetched.. if we are restricted to British incomings, they are rarely cheap.

As yet there isn’t even a hint of a target and we have to assume that targets that were AN targets might not be of interest to Schu. Whilst his isn’t the only word I doubt they’d saddle him with an expensive forward he doesn’t want.

Yeah - if loans are off the table - and frees almost impossible to find in January, it'll be interesting to see where we think we can find a difference-making permanent left-back and striker with what will presumably be a pretty small budget?

Then we increased to £3M and after that was rejected were still trying to find a compromise right upto the deadline. Is he a Schu type I don’t know to me he seems to have a bit of everything. I’d still question his motivation to swap their position with ours at this time.

Yeah, he is an interesting case. He may fancy going as a free in the summer. But where would he go assuming he doesn't catch fire between now and May? A Stoke-type club is probably where you'd set the market. I'd certainly be tempted to accept anything around £750k+ if the alternative is him going for nothing in the summer. Hard to be completely sure if he's remotely open to staying if he found himself enjoying the next 6 months and scoring 6 or 7 goals. Sad the way it appears to have worked out here considering how bright it all looked about 3 years ago - and at various fleeting moments since

Is he the last of our Premier League wage hangover? I know he signed a new deal to tempt him to stay when MON was here but we would have had to up it quite considerably to fend off Rangers, shirley?

Probably why we're not pulling up trees to resign him and also explains why other clubs don't appear to be beating our door down to get him.

So the true trading loss for the year is £28.4 million.. Not brilliant .
Trading Loss £(28.4m) Profit on players £ 15.7m ------ Net trading loss £(12.7m) ------

Who is going to pay a million pounds for a player they can get for free in 6 months? He’s always injured and rarely in form.

Did we do any tricks like writing off extra player value? As I understand it players are treated as intangible assets and are written off by amortisation over the period of the players contract .Amortisation is like depreciation for cars and other fixed assets..Alot of accounting jargon there..The profit on disposal of player registrations of £15.7 million is made up mainly of the sale of Souttar to Leicester.

To make such losses however it is dressed up is shocking for a team as low in the table as we have been and shows the madness of football finances at this level. The players are rewarded far above their merit and it can`t go on forever. Perhaps if the saudi league takes away some of the gloss of the premier league or the European super league takes off then some realism will come back into the game.
