Sadly you're probably right. They'll recoup 500m and spend 500m finding it. Waste of time probably. Makes them feel virtuous by saying it to a gullible public though. Indeed. It would be good to see some getting their just desserts though for being corrupt. And I ain't talking about the small fry stuff I'm talking about the big fish who went out to get hundreds of thousands if not millions out of it. Theft plain and simple and should be treated as such.

The key conferences will be next year's If the Rwanda plan is declared legal by the high court (and I think it will be) expect a spring election. Throughout winter fewer boats arrive anyway. BUT they'll claim it as a success for the policy and go to the election emboldened.

This. I think that this is really positive (as long as they follow through). The amount of corruption and fraud that occurred during the pandemic amounts to billions. A large chunk of that is linked to the government's scattergun approach to PPE procurement which, at times, was basically used to give big contracts to their mates. I, like many others, worked all the way through the pandemic. I have some family members who were self-employed and received barely any support. This should be something that everyone gets behind.

Absolutely, if it does nothing more than lock a couple of them up it at least might make future charlatans think twice about helping themselves to public funds

Covid Corruption Commissioner? You just have to laugh. Theyβre not even in government yet and already making bombastic promises they have zero intention of following through. Tories in red So you are a fan of the tory policy of just writing off these crimes and ignoring them?

Not sure how anyone can think the covid commissioner thing is a bad idea tbh.
Writing that debt off to their mates was and is absolutely scandalous from the Tory party. Hopefully they start at Michelle Mone. Daylight robbery.

Like you said, start with the Tory life peer Baroness Mone.

Never voted anyone but labour in a general election and will almost certainly be voting for them next time.
That said, given that opinion polls have them almost certainly winning the next election, I have started to be worried by a lack of substantial policy from them in recent years. The optimist in me just says they are keeping their cards close to their chest and going with the old addage "never interrupt your opponent when they are making a bad move", but at the moment I'm not that confident they have what it takes to sort out the shambles the country has become. Starmer does seem to have unified his party at least.

Reeves/Starmer should make it clear this week that the commission for fraud should be a fully independent one with powers to recoup/sequestrate monies from the fraudsters and pass on to prosecutors for Jail sentences.

Hopefully they start at Michelle Mone. Daylight robbery. This. The fact that some people basically scammed millions of pounds of public money for themselves (or their mates) is disgusting. The fact that the government are essentially saying "ah, nevermind, we won't look into it" is equally as disgusting. A direct line by Labour of "we are holding people to account for the corruption tgat happened under the previous government" is a message that will potentially cut through to people.

What will they say about Hamas and its disgusting attackes on the Israeli people? βThis is an appalling attack on Israel, a terrorist attack, for which there is no justification,β Starmer told the BBC, adding that the violence must be βcalled out across the world.β βThe perpetrators of this have deliberately pushed back the prospect of peace agreements.β You'll probably like that statement. He calls them terrorists unlike itv, bbc, sky news, lbc and many other television networks.
