I’m collecting the wife’s car today from the car body shop after some utter twat hit it and drove off, I have to pay double the normal excess I’m being told as I don’t know who hit her car, but got a call from admiral asking if I’d be interested in them passing it on to an agency to try and find the utter twat driver

My eldest (22) passed his test eventually before Christmas - 6 goes at it - but suffered as he failed #1 the day before Lockdown 1 in March 2020 and instructor retired so its been between me and his mum to keep him driving in between away a Uni for 3 years so its been fragmented! (He could drive perfectly well, just always a mistake under test conditions!) Anyway, bought himself a little car (Peugeot 306), I was expecting north of £2000 for Comprehensive insurance - On his own, with a black box fitted, cheapest (via MoneySupermarket, shopped around a few), £1480. (Same company (Admiral) on Confused.com £1890.....) - Added myself as a named driver (have my own car), it went down to £1150...with a black box/app - Added his mum as another named driver (has her own car), it went down again to £1020...with a black box/app However on the last option he could have the same cover with NO black box/monitoring for £1120, so he has gone for that. Madness that adding your parents to cover lessens the risk/premium - but a tip for any of you getting insurance for the first time - add your folks! Just as a matter of interest if the little darlings have to claim How does it effect the parent /s own insurance for there vehicles Depends on who was driving and if the youngster is named on their insurance if mum and dad name on kids insurance but kid not named on their insurance if kid has accident they don't have to declare it on their insurance if mum or dad has accident in sons car then they have to declare it

Slightly on subject but does anyone have a dash cam, been told you can get a 360 degree version that records if there’s a movement on your car when you’re not in it??
First question I was asked recently after an accident

First question I was asked recently after an accident My Nextbase one has a front and rear camera (the rear one connects via a cable going along the roof lining) . Don't know about 360 degrees, but the setup has a "Park Mode", where if someone or something bumps the car while stationery, the cameras start filming. I didn't want to splash out on a dashcam, but let's say it's since "payed for itself" in some ways.

Popped into halfords and they have an all singing and dancing 360 front/rear camera at £499 that does the normal stuff but also motion activated, also an option whereby you pay £9.99 a month and footage is sent straight to your phone if you’re away from it.

We like the Land Rover Defender but having spoken to a few people in the trade they’re supposedly a bag of shit throughout most of the Land Rover/Range Rover models and we were advised to stay well clear. From what I’ve seen and been told car recovery garages are rammed full of stolen/recovered Range Rovers, Evoques, Defenders etc as they’re always being stolen despite monthly security updates. One person was telling me the insurance excess is a minimum of £1200 and I’ve seen yearly insurance quotes between 26-30k for Range Rovers JLR are so concerned over this they have formed their own insurance company... Actually makes a lot of sense, would certainly bring repair costs down and lead to far fewer right offs.. But JLR are refusing to insure some of their own models…….its bonkers. www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/361974/land-rover-insurance-problems-mount-owners-are-refused-house-cover#:~:text=Land%20Rover%20owners%20are%20up,their%20vehicles%20were%20“uninsurable”.

The insurance companies are ripping us off big style. Once upon a time most people took out third party only or third party fire and theft. Nowadays they don't seem to do this and if we ask, they tell us that comprehensive is a cheaper option. Crazy stuff.

We’re with Admiral and use their multi cover package (home/car), staff are always very polite and had reason to make a claim recently and they were very good. So far they’ve been reasonable on price so stick with them.

An accident management company will pay an insurer £000's if they they refer their policyholders non fault accidents. Equally, an insurer will make £000's on a non-fault repair.
The whole system is corrupt.

Up by a third, despite payouts decreasing.
Obviously other factors affect price, but seemingly rates have increased somewhere between 2-5% in countries such as Spain and France. Makes you wonder how they can justify such an increase.
I'm not sure "car parts are more expensive now" cuts it.

Greed by the rich and they know they will get away with it because we have a government who prioritises the super wealthy over everyone else. Premiums up a third here, but up just 6% in Italy, 5% in Spain and 2% in France. Hopefully one of the foreign companies realises they can make an absolute fortune here by under cutting the UK opposition. Hopefully Brexit doesn’t make that impossible for them.
