I'd be pretty surprised if the board was being invaded by Russian bots but you never know.π Some of those Russian birds have very nice bots I once went to a lap dancing club (obviously to get directions away from the place) and most if the gals were Russian and Georgian. I didn't want to leave... until I saw my bar bill.

Yeah, he was, it was pretty obvious. Same outlook, same tiresome areas of focus, same inability to offer any sensible response when challenged. No surprise he got booted off again. Wrong once again Bluers So strange that he's not been seen for over a week after a brief period of being all over the place π€£ Could easily be on holiday I guess. If you're right he'll be back soon enough, if I am he won't! At least not in the guise of slippyblunger this time!

Of course they wouldn't mate. I was trying to have an adult like conversation with a poster the other day but because I disagreed with him he took a tone which he certainly wouldn't take with me face to face.Β Its not the just the oatcake though I'm told twitter and other online platforms are the same . They don't represent real people and their views. I always find it interesting when people come out with "wouldn't say that to my face" sort of line. Or the olde "everyone I speak to says/thinks this". For instance I've got an older uncle who is very set in his ways with little to no wiggle room. He'll go on his rants and most of the family now just nod along as its not worth even bothering to challenge or attempting to have a sensible discussion around. He probably comes away from gatherings with the view that everyone shares the same opinion as him but in reality we all just think it's not worth wasting our breath on. Similarly I also have came across other people in different walks of life that like to try and intimidate, ridicule or raise their voice at those who disagree with them. And again once you recognise these traits you just don't bother because it's not worth the hassle. I think everyone can relate to meeting characters like the above wherever they're from. So when people come out with the "wouldn't say it in person" lines I usually immediately think/wonder if they're possibly like the above. Because to be honest most of my views on here I readily discuss with friends, families and colleagues. Obviously it doesn't really come up at a pub but I don't think most of us spend most of our times in pubs either. Not implying you or the other person are like the above by the way. But just more saying I think it's a strange thing to say generally. With that said though, I know it's not directed at me and I guess whichever posts it relates to are ones I'm not aware of. Maybe it's more about people who get personal or abusive which is a different matter altogether. I think the point I was originally trying to make was that there are a number of posters who's 1st position is aggressive, confrontational or belittling which is very easy to do on a message board. If the recipient of this type was post was sitting in front of them they'd think twice before taking that stance. They're just keyboard warriors I suppose. I like to think that I'm the same on here as I am in person. I would certainly hope so.

Over the past couple of weeks we seem to have attracted a selection of new and `interesting` Oatcakers such sas, apiwas etc with, it's fair to say 'alternative views' to many of us. As entertaining as they are I'm wondering if we're being targeted by Eastern bots ? If so, why ? What do the masses think ? I'm a new poster, although I've lurked for a while. I don't think the oatcake would appear on any radars as worthy of being sent any bots. The oatcake isnt a threat to anyone. It's just a football messaging board full of people that in the main don't have many social skills so feel the need to spout off online. Not everyone of course but from the posts I see and the amount of time certain individuals seem to spend on here it certainly gives me the impression of a bit of a 40 year old virgin dorky star wars fan brigade. I believe new users were banned from signing up for quite some time which meant the oatcake became an echo chamber for far left wing views. New posters that don't sign up to that ideology are simply a reflection of the broader society. Absolute bollocks.

The government/politics thread is almost comically Liberal left. A deeply hostile thread riddled with bitterness, anger, hate and with an undeniable remoaner undercurrent. Question their views at your peril! That said, there are still a couple of very respectful and fine posters who contribute, albeit who I may differ with politically - But that's fine... My response to this is partly personal, as when I had the temerity to use real life anecdotes from some of my students on there, to illustrate a number of issues the amount of derision, and in some places passive aggressive replies I got, tells me that the Oatcake (EE) is far from some Liberal Left haven, let alone the hilariously inaccurate use of the phrase "Far Left" in the post I have just replied to.

It's a shame because I imagine most posters on here come from the Stoke on trent or surrounding areas, I imagine most are working class (mostly), most support the mighty Potters and most want what's best for the country. You'd think people would be able to discuss things like adults, put ideas out there which people can agree with or disagree with , discuss matters relating to local and national politics etc. I get it's the internet and message boards can attract a large amount of a certain type of person, and I get politics can be divisive and some people feel very passionate about things due to personal circumstances but by being passive aggressive, sarcastic, rude or insulting surely they can see it does nothing but make the other 'team' become more entrenched. Personally I'm happy to vote Tory, I'm happy to vote Labour I'm happy to vote for anyone if I feel they have my personal interests at heart and those of wider society. I just don't get all this being loyal to one party thing because one thing for sure is no parties are loyal to us. Certain posters on here just seem to want to 'win' or have the last say. I find it all utterly bizarre.

Probably the 'bots' that they accuse others of being mate π But on a serious note they definitely aren't normal and I don't mean that in a piss taking way. Some people have had a bad start in life, they could of had bad things happen to them as adults and now they hit out online out of anger and bitterness. They're certainly in the minority with their views but like I said before the views aren't necessarily the problem. People hold all kinds of strange views, look at flat eathers for example. We might find it odd but they are entitled to their views if it helps them to cope . The issue is the arrogance and smugnees that a large number of them display.

OK ok, I admit it I'm little rocket man π
I was sat in my North Korean parliament wondering how I could influence the west. I didn't think of infiltrating the education system or the media or government, I thought 'that Oatcake looks like a powerful entity, I'll sign up on there and engage in discussions about local issues.....that'll show em"

I miss the guy who (allegedly) bum-bared in a Thai police station who (allegedly) had more than 1 username, it was fun trying to spot his new incarnations, like looking out for Alfred Hitchcock at the beginning of his films
Also miss Bathstoke for his cultural appreciation of the 1980s and 1990s
