Comedy way back when was either London based or Liverpool based and sometimes London based with a scouser thrown in, Til death do us part! Only fools and horses (which turned to shit).
Looking back it was fucking awful! Added to above mentioned shite in this thread. The Liver Birds Citizen Smith Love thy neighbour Bless this house Mind your language On the buses and probably much more I have thankfully forgotten.
There were some horrendous spin offs from the original shite to!
Watching TV with your parents, having to sit through them chuckling away, was awful! ๐
Was she in 'The boys from the black stuff'stuff' which was actually brilliant!?

Just for clarity, in case anyone thinks I was telling Salop to โpiss offโ๐คฃ itโs what the grandad used to say when he opened the front door to someone on Bread. Raised a titter as an 8 year old or whatever I was๐ Where's me tea?

The Liverpool stuff, Liver Birds and Bread were both Carla Lane seem to remember, unfunny repeated catchphrases set in Liverpool, her home City. Complete dross . Was one set in Stoke with John Mills . . John Mills was a Stoke supporter and was filmed near the Vic. Can vaguely remember re runs of it but of course was a fan just because of that. Edit Young at Heart is a British independent television sitcom that was broadcast between 1980 and 1982. Starring John Mills and Megs Jenkins the series was about a married couple, Albert and Ethel Collyer, after Albert's enforced retirement at age 65 from his 50 years as a pottery worker. Although Mills had performed in comedy prior to this, Young at Heart was his first leading role in a sitcom.[1][2]

The only other one I remember was "Clayhanger" although probably not filemd around here. There was also "My Fragile Heart" with Sarah Lancashire - filmed in Stoke that everyone seems to have forgotten about.

I would take Mind Your Language and Citizen Smith over garbage like Gavin & Stacey etc any day
Bit concerning when the Yanks make better comedy than we do these days

There was also "My Fragile Heart" with Sarah Lancashire - filmed in Stoke that everyone seems to have forgotten about. Thanks for flagging this up. Sadly, I couldn't find this anywhere else to watch this online or stream, so because it was a wet morning and I was intrigued, I ended up watching this on the Youtube link. I don't think I'd seen this or forgotten it but have to admit that back when it was made, the fact that Sarah Lancashire stars wouldn't have drawn me towards watching it, as I've been guilty in the past of having fell for the Corrie typecast version of her and didn't realise just what a fantastic actress she is. I guess what drew me in initially was spotting all of the local film locations, not to mention seeing Nicholas Gleaves in the cast (The vicar of Keele in Marvellous) but it was definitely well worth the watch, a compelling drama with more twists than a cheap garden hose. *edit* and props to Anne Stallybrass for a brilliantly funny cameo as the dementure suffering mother of Sarah Lancashire's character, bringing some light to an otherwise very dark subject matter
