Something that has struck me over the last few days is the excitement that the club’s fresh approach to recruitment is generating. If we’d signed a slew of decent, but entirely predictable, Championship players I think there’d be more pressure to hit the ground running. I’m sensing this group will get time to gel and the fans will be right behind them. That will help the manager. Starting to feel optimistic. Reminds me a bit of the Boskamp season when literally all we signed were unknown foreign players. Most fans really enjoyed that season despite us only finishing midtable. Exactly what came into my mind.

It's amazing how the club seems much more enthusiastic and sensible since scholes has left 👀👀👀👀 Was as so often said always the main issue

Wesley was born with one leg almost three centimetres shorter than the other. Should be able to turn on a sixpence on his long leg

Reminds me a bit of the Boskamp season when literally all we signed were unknown foreign players. Most fans really enjoyed that season despite us only finishing midtable. Exactly what came into my mind. I think the major difference is they were all essentially players known to Boskamp from his managerial career who’d passed his ‘eye test’, rather than players scouted using data to back up someone’s opinion. As you say, the fact that there are some more ‘standard’ signings this time should also help things gel a bit more quickly. I hate to be overly optimistic, but it does feel like it’s going to be one of the more ‘interesting’ seasons in a long while, even if it’s ultimately not a great success. Funny when you look back the Boskamp season though. He had a point over Rudge (can’t say I’ve seen a DoF pull a stunt like that before or since), and if Bangoura hadn’t pulled his stunts then who knows how that season could have gone.

i don’t think he will play a target man that often , he’ll bring him in when needed by what he was saying That would make Wesley a ludicrously expensive option then, surely? I can’t see how we’ve brought in a player for a one-year contract who was on a fortune and cost Villa €20 million+ without stumping up a very large signing on fee. Wes already had one year remaining on his Villa contract. It looks like we may have simply taken over the final year of his contract at a cost of £1.8M (£35k p/wk x 52). There would have been no signing-on fee, cos we didn't get him on a free. I definitely think Wes has something to offer if we can nurse him into his Club Brugge/Villa form from 4-5 years ago. He's phenomenal in the air and very strong on the ground, so he won't be outmuscled often. He can make chances for others too. As mentioned somewhere else, he'll come in very handy for low-block teams at home. He should definitely get minutes against Rotherham.

Just looked at his wiki page…Not overwhelmed by this. He’s being a bit "bigged up" isn’t he? He’s described as a striker but his rate is around 1 in 5 and he had 1 decent season at Club Brugge before his Aston Villa move. After the ACL injury, although he appears to have recovered getting plenty of game time over the last 2 seasons, his scoring rate is very poor. People are possibly being blinkered by his Brazil international status…..he played once in 2019. Hope I’m wrong & this is the season he comes good after injury recovery. Why do Brazil players go by just one name?

lets give all the new signings a chance now before people start running them down, they need time to settle in, certain players hit it off at different clubs, lets hope they can do it for us,

Why do Brazil players go by just one name? Government regulations forbid the sale of those little desktop name plate things (the ones that are like a Toblerone wrapper but with your name on) longer than 4-inches. As such, Brazilian parents give their offspring only one name in case the child grows up to be the CEO of a large corporate entity and is unable to fit their title on the nameplate provided.

I expect any Stoke City team to beat Rotherham at home. But I won't be writing anybody off as shit until Christmas at least.

Played 44 Won 17 Drawn 13 Lost 14 We've only beaten them once in six games since being relegated as well, and our more recent record against them in the last 20 years shows that they're a bit of a bogey team for us (2 wins in the last 14 league games).

I think the difficulty we've got with any targets as well is the fact that they come at a premium in terms of cost – and not even just wages but transfer fee and all that sort of stuff. “We’ve got that many players to add, it’s impossible for us to buy them all. So we do need to make sure that we're quite smart in the market.”
