Stupid question as the club won't let on. more than last season apparently I know a lot of people who have bought season cards for their kids (which works out at a £1 a game or something I think?). However, not many intend to go to every home game. I imagine that will have boosted the numbers somewhat.

They can still empty a stadium quicker than any other when things aren't going well, as we'll see this season.

Wouldn't give that lot the steam off my piss. The most disrespectful supporters towards other clubs that I've ever come across.

One club city Cheapish season ticket Most of those who watched some of our final games towards the end of the season enjoyed the football Just some of the reasons that would have helped. We’ve always sold 30k season tickets minimum from memory, fairly quick at leaving the stadium if the game turns shit though.

Sunderland is a similar size city to stoke and Newcastle under Lyme isn't it? But yes, they're a one club city but still, they have a more loyal fan base than us. I think it's inherent in us stoke people to be cynical and less enthusiastic and less likely to attend, whereas whenever I have met a Sunderland fan they always seem positive, often almost deluded, about their club.

Yep, I imagine the Bet365 will look empty again next season regardless of the official attendance. We need to somehow give folks a reason to believe. People are punch drunk after 6 seasons of utter dross. Last season was the worst of the lot and perhaps the worst ever at home. Do AN and his 2 new hires Tricky and Google Jared have the winning formula? I vey much doubt it, but let's hope so!

Durham was mostly Newcastle fans back then, at least that I noticed.

Fair play. Get behind there team through thick and thin like Derby. Unlike us lot ! They have the biggest numbers in the EFL (even averaging more than 30k at times in league one) but they’ve also had huge dropoffs at times. The last time they got relegated from the premiership they went from over 40k avg to around 27/28k. The raw numbers are impressive obviously, but the % drop off is what you need to look at to make your “thick and thin” comparison. Derby/Norwich are two clubs that spring to mind who, from memory alone, don’t seem to have those huge drop offs that most other clubs are susceptible to. Leeds are interesting. They’re a big club and also love to big up how great their support is, the gimps were all over social media when things were going well. But the season they got relegated from the championship they averaged about 20k, and relatively speaking that would be like when we had 12-14k type crowds. It’s a myth that stoke are some sort of outlier in this regard. If we get on a roll again and start finally looking like we're on a clear upward trajectory, our crowds will move back towards 25k even in this division. And if we get promoted, towards 30k again.

I don’t get this fawning over the Mackems support. The catchment area for Sunderland FC is huge. Population Tyne and Wear is 1.1 Million. But the area for attracting supporters is larger as the only competition is Newcastle, Darlington and Hartlepool. They should be getting 40k easily. So not so great really.

33,000 tickets sold is a terrific effort for a town the size of Sunderland.
Yes , it's not that far from Durham, but it's also not that far from Newcastle United, a massive premier League club, backed by infinity Saudi money .
Would be interesting to see how Stoke's support would hold up if Derby county were taken over by the Saudi's and rocketed to the champions League and top end of the prem?
Newcastle is much bigger than Sunderland and i think they get gates of about 50K
I am impressed. For a town the size of Sunderland to get gates of over 30k , week in week out, when they are on the doorstep of Newcastle United, is good going

Makems would never support Newcastle and vice versa, whereas here we get Fail fans living in Stoke parts of the city and the other way round. Plus they have plenty of satellite towns to draw support from and, because their location is relatively remote, they don't seem to be as infested with gloryhunters
