Swear he was signed off the back of a bad acl injury and it took him a long time to get fit and any time he did have a run of games he'd pick up a niggle. That combined with tymons good form made it difficult for him to solidify a position in the team. I think it was a bad hamstring tear not an ACL because I remember discussion at the time of it being a bad injury for an explosive pacy player. Sorry my bad mate. I just remember it being a potential career changing injury and being worried it could impact his pace

Could have been he was on a fair old wage, maybe just didn't settle a la super Sam, either way he was nowhere near playing for us.

Think Etebo and maybe Shea are the only ones since Triggy and Ziggy about whom that can be said. MON will have signed off on Doughty. He just likely wasn’t impressed once he’d actually rocked up. I'm sure that he signed it off. I'm sure that is what they mean by the manager having the final say. I just get the impression that some players are signed off because the manager is told the club have organised it and think he'll be good but that the players are not always ones the manager himself would choose and who when they turn up the manager has no idea how to use them. I think Powell fell into that category because he was never a Nathan Jones type player. I think managers in the past have just said OK, whatever and signed players off because you're not going to turn down what looks like a coup. In this regard I think Neil will be an improvement - he knows exactly what he wants and speaks his mind. The manager would give a pretty specific set of specifications as to the kind of player he wanted and the scouting team would look for players based on those specifications. That’s pretty standard I think?

Do you mean he was never in with a chance of playing for us because he was injured or because, when he did play, he was not up to standard. Personally, I don't think he was given much of an opportunity so difficult to tell. He had pace when we were crying out for pace but never got a run of games, from memory.

Wasn’t a wing back. So MON sold him. Simple as that really.

Just didn't happen, it happens! 😁

We signed him when he had as bad a hamstring tear as you can get. A really serious injury.
Brilliant recruitment.

Who knows why but signing a pace merchant with a hamstring injury is always going to be a risk! Hope we put a sell on clause for when he's sold on after tearing up the premiershit! 😁

Wasn’t a wing back. So MON sold him. Simple as that really. So why sign him then when he knew he was going to play wing backs. It's the same as signing Surridge to play as a target man when he obviously wasn't one. The manager had totally lost the plot.

Just a casualty, it happens. As it will with Tymon no doubt at greater cost (as in Tymon is worth more then Doughty was as an asset)

Did we miss a trick? - is there another thread about him? Have I had a drink and can't understand why, yet again, another player gets injured/under performs for Stoke City yet seems to gel elsewhere? I don't believe he under performed at Stoke. The games I saw him play, he played well. I was shocked when he left us.
