Old games, new games, recommendations, ones to avoid - what are you playing right now?
I'm sporadically working my way through the most recent Spider-Man on the PS5 and also discovering I'm now terrible at Sensible World of Soccer having assumed that I was still brilliant at it having not played it for 25 years...

FM23 and now back on Gran Turismo 7 doing online races.
The Spa Daily Race B has been an absolute joke this week. Bellends crashing into you on purpose, driving like knobheads ruining races. People just can't hack that you're overtaking them at times. It's knocked down my safety rating from A to D from collisions I had no time or chance of avoiding.

Got FM on the go. Got intrigued by taking an unemployed save and now can’t get a job anywhere. The press have started to ridicule my applying for every job going.
Re started Sniper Elite 5 on the PS. I am not hopeful.

Can you do a group where it would just be Oaties racing? Certainly can. It'd be in the standard Multiplayer mode where a lobby can be set up. You can give them custom names so the lobby could simply be called Oatcake Fanzine. Race settings like power limits and tracks can now be changed in the lobby itself, so you don't need to disband the room anymore to change stuff. It wouldn't affect your online rating either so a bit of accidental bumper bashing isn't going to penalise anyone.

Single player I'm still pluggin' away on an old save on FM22. Online multiplayer is all about Valorant (Which takes up the vast bulk of my gaming time). If I just want to kill a few hours I always find drifting around the ocean on Raft does the trick.

Started a new save on FM22 using the Increase Realism Mod (https://www.fmscout.com/a-increase-realism-megapack-fm22.html), intrigued to see how a long term save pans out with it. Skipping 23, there isn't enough updates to justify me buying it this time around.
Keep swapping between Cricket 22, Mass Effect 2 and F1 22 on the PS5 depending on how I'm feeling. Need to get back on NCAA Football 14 on the PS3 at some point too.

I'm quite enjoying Cricket 22, it isn't as enjoyable as Brian Lara from back in the day and the graphics for PS5 are really poor but it's pretty decent for what it is. I got it whilst it was on offer on PS Store a couple of months back www.amazon.co.uk/Cricket-22-Official-Game-Ashes/dp/B09HSV4VNZ

Been playing Breath of The Wild on the switch.
On PC it’s been Hell Let Loose, Satisfactory, Highfleet and Grand Tactician Civil War.
I’m gearing up to have a Black Mesa, Half Life 2 and Prey stint but don’t know if it will just depress me when I think how shit most AI and first person shooters are nowadays.

I accidentally reached the final boss on Breath of the Wild after 190 hours and about 2 years. I was dragging it out because I enjoyed exploring the world so much, but maybe it was about time to move onto something else.
I'm enjoying Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins, which plays as a sequel to the best Doctor Who episode, Blink, featuring Larry from the DVD store. I haven't played a "found phone" game before, and it's fun communicating with UNIT.
I mostly play local multiplayer games and Unravel Two has been a recent favourite.
I bought the Senna Forever extra for Horizon Chase Turbo, and that's great retro-racing fun.
Conduct Together! is a crazy and at times very difficult co-op game where each player controls trains and junctions to move passengers around and avoid crashing. A bargain for 89p.
Also playing Cuphead but it's maybe a bit too hard for me, especially the random bits that kill you.

It's not a game I'd enjoy alone. On the co-op, I'm relying on my brother being a much better gamer than me, and we still spent over an hour on a boss and didn't beat it. I love run and gun games. Super Probotector: Alien Rebels on the SNES is my favourite and difficult at times, but Cuphead is something else.

I've just watched a walkthrough for Cuphead on Youtube, looks brilliant but infuriating.
Really like how it's a bit scratchy looking, like an old film or disney movie.
looks fucking hard though.
Think I've managed to switch my PS4 on twice this year and had a couple of hours each time on Red Dead, don't think I'll ever get chance to finish that game, despite loving it.
Really want the new EA Sports PGA game, with them finally having the rights to the Masters/Augusta but can't justify buying a PS5 just to play a golf game.

Gunstar Heroes on the Mega Drive cracking as well. People love the Contra games but I've always been absolutely terrible at them.

I remember playing one of the contra arcade games in the early nighties in a hotel in Majorca. There was a German bloke who set all new high scores on the machine and I kept fininshing just outside his lowest. Anyway one day I decided to just continue with a new credit and the score reset I played past the point where he always died and completed the game smashing the high score despite it resetting and only completing about a 1/4 of the game. I spent the rest of the holiday watching him pump coins and hours trying best my score and failing not knowing how I’d done it 😂😂

Did anyone play the Final Fantasy 7 remake for PS4?
I'd been so excited for it, think it's the only game I've ever pre ordered, the original is probably my favourite game of all time. Must've played it from start to finish about 3 times as a kid, 100s of hours.
However it didn't take long for the remake to feel all a bit meh, it looked great but the gameplay just wasn't grabbing me and I dunno I just struggled with it, maybe it's because I'm older now and just not that in to games or games of that ilk.
Once I found out that it wasn't the whole game and only took you up to the point where you leave Midgar, I barely picked it up again. Admittedly, it was around lockdown time and Warzone soon took over my life but yeah I was VERY disappointed.

I think the answer for me is to get Cuphead from the library.
At least then I won’t die wondering.. Though I’m sure I will die a lot

GT7 received another update, finally bringing in 120hz support and VRR support. The license test leaderboards have been reset though, annoying as I went through them to beat my mate on them all I currently sit 6th in the world on the infamous A-9 hairpin test. If my old time still stood, I'd be 2nd in the world! So you can imagine what license test I'll be glued onto now I also recently got back into playing the Crucible on Destiny 2. God the gunplay shits all over COD, BF 2042 and Halo. So much fun. Tempted to pick up Witch Queen and Lightfall for it.

GT3 is my favourite out the lot.

GT3 is my favourite out the lot. If you like the GT3/4 style career, you may be left wanting. The cafe menu system is not as detailed or as expansive as the old games. And with no endurance races or B-Spec mode, you miss some elements of the older games. However, the gameplay is brilliant. The damage model is still poor, but the feel of driving is brilliant. It's not on the level of realism as Assetto Corsa is, but for an arcade sim its definitely up there.

Are you playing JWE1 or 2? My experience with the fencing in JWE2 was that it very rarely, if ever, mattered what fencing I used. The dinosaurs would smash through any of them if unhappy, and the storms would break any of them too. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but refused to pay for the 2 x £16.99 add ons. Just started the new F1 game now. The changes to the driving are brilliant, though I’ve seen very little change other than that so far.
