Stoke is a cesspit. What exactly are you going to do about it, sugar tits? Also 'babe', 'sir'- why do you talk like a fop when you're wound up? 😂 Why do you live somewhere you consider to be a cesspit? I live in the Moorlands not Stoke-on-Trent. Unfortunately Hanley is the closest city centre I have, and it's terrible. You probably love the Auctioneer and Tontine though.

Coming from the fella who kept making digs about me working in a supermarket (which was bollocks anyway) 😂 Belittling someone's (imagined) job really isn't a good look for a so called socialist, chief

The reasons for the car parks is if Hanley wants to get things like the arena etc they have to be in place before it gets planning permission This city will never move on whilst it’s locals mock and slaughter it Hanley is a depressing sight with far too many wronguns wandering around. That’s not mocking it, it’s just fact. And you have to pay to park there too, where Trafford Centre, Cheshire Oaks, Cannock Outlet all not that far away are free and much better for shopping. Hopefully this is a start of change and will give the city’s people something to be proud of, and not just the usual “that’ll do” attitude to improvement. I agree with others that 3600 isn’t big enough. It’s small time.

I was back in Stoke last week for a funeral and arrived early to take a look around. It was in Burslem and hadnt seen the place in 20+ years Yes it was depressing in places but some great architecture and heritage I told the people at the food reception afterwards only to be met with universal derision I tried to be positive but the overwhelming attitude of all was that the whole city was downtrodden and a hellhole Worryingly the people involved were Social Workers, teachers, etc - It was almost like they were defeated before they tried I wonder if it is a kind of self-defence mechanism against future failure on their part I was a lone voice of positivity- every example I cited (eg Emma Bridgewater) was knocked back or belittled
definitely something Ive not encountered in other cities.

Why is it? It's gallows humour and if we're being realistic we must have one of the worst city centres in mainland Britain (forget Manchester or Liverpool too, a provincial city like Nottingham is streets ahead of us). If it wasn't for the theatres and shopping centre Hanley would be on a par with Longton. What’s wrong with Longton?🤣 I could actually understand all these new car parks if Nigde moved to Hanley Longton is the centre of the universe and thats coming from a longtonian.

What if Nigde moved though? Have you thought about that? It’d be worse than when Mr Dicks went on to pastures new, there’d only be Noshers left😉

Noshers is like a family friend to me and my siblings as we are good friends with the owner.

When i think back to the 70s and 80s, longton was a great shopping town.
Like the rest of the country, a loss of local industry and readily available money to spend, has decimated a once proud town.

Accidents happen? Not sure how it’s the fault of the council if a construction firm has made an error that led to this.
FWIW I went round the one way last night and saw some donut going the wrong way by the Glebe up towards the station. Ev1 peeping their horns at the person.
Wish I’d pulled over so I could enjoy watching them try to turn around on the curved bank with traffic oncoming.

Found this video fascinating - Hanley on a Friday* night at 11-30pm:
I’ve not been for years - in fact last time was when we lost to Croatia in the World Cup semi final. Growing up though in the early 2000s through to mid 2010’s I was there plenty of times - Monday, Friday and Saturday on a lot of occasions (castle on a Wednesday). Those streets were full, queues outside the bars and clubs - Jon parkin sat in the takeaway (other Stoke players out including those who’d left and come back for a night out - always remember seeing James O’Connor and Clive Clarke out one night for some bizarre reason)
It’s absolutely dead though now and quite sad to see.
Does anyone on here ever go now for a Friday or Saturday night?

You shouldn't be surprised looking at this place Stoke On Trent is the only place in the country that doesn't get a free ride..... criticise any other city and there'll be a queue of ready defenders in no time. For what it's worth you're absolutely correct about Burslem. Don't know whether you had the time to get up to Burslem Park but it's a fabulous amenity for the town. I was out running with a group from the Festival Park around a year back and one of the guys took us on to an unused dry spur of the canal that leads to Middleport there are efforts to reopen it, a fantastic part of the industrial heritage of the city.

Does anyone on here ever go now for a Friday or Saturday night? Wouldn't even entertain Hanley on a weekend night- if we go out round here it's Newcastle, Stoke or sometimes Burslem (although Burslem's dropped off too over the last few years with the loss of The Leopard and The Swan etc). This despite Hanley actually being closer to get to. There's nothing even on 'the periphery' of Hanley whereas you have Hartshill, Basford and Penkhull connecting 'castle and Stoke making it a damn good pub crawl. Any new craft beer/gin bars open in Newcastle and even Hartshill- why on Earth would you open one in Hanley when the local proles just want shit like Carling and Strongbow on offer? Even The Quarter would rather focus on Stoke and close it's Hanley site. Hanley's just about ok for a bit of shopping in the day, maybe a midweek curry when you can do 'spoons, Coach and The Woodman and go home before 11 (assuming you can still get a bus) I genuinely think they should promote Stoke town more as a drinking destination- get the students in with Spode etc. Hanley is finished, and hard to believe it's the same place people visited from outside SOT in the 90s/early 00s

When you think back stoke on trent was the centre of the universe in the 80s and 90s
Every town had something
In my town longton, we had jollees, then the leisurebowl, shelleys, a whole raft of boozers, takeaways, etc. Now all we had is Nigdes. Fortunately its still a fabulous takeaway, but the rest is long gone.
Im glad i got to witness it all before it faded away.
Now my home town is like hanley, and that makes me sad cos i love longton. Thank god the pub triangle is still there. Signalman, sealion and congress.

I go as far as Pockets in Hanley and that’s it, horrible shit hole and needs leveling completely rather than leveling up.
By the time you’ve pissed about sitting in traffic as I was Saturday by TFI Friday’s is it?? I could pop on a train to Manchester and have a proper full day out and feel I’ve enjoyed myself.

wow, that is a grim video of Hanley, where do all the youngsters go these days ?
Hanley and Castle used to be buzzing in the 80's, that's where you'd go to meet up, your mates and Ladies, I suppose it's all supermarket drinks, tinder and Netflix now.

I left S-o-T in 84 and Nottingham in 88. Went back to both 30 years later and the difference between the two now is stark. Incidentally when I tell ex-Brits I'm from Stoke originally it never fails to get a negative reaction, so sad.

Glad I had my youth when I did, try and chat a female up as a young lad in a deserted Hanley pub now and you'd probably be accused of assuming their gender, 'manspreading', 'mainsplaining' or some other daft buzzword of the week. Still, progress hey 🙄

i guess cos local pay levels are that shit you can't afford to move anywhere else . Funnily enough my wage is more on Stoke than elsewhere for a similar employer. I won't be hanging around once I can finish though. Sticking it out here means that's sooner than it would be otherwise.
