Depends how much of his wages we’d carry. That’s pretty much what it boils down to when offloading players nobody else wants. Flint would be mint in League One though. He won't be on much at all More than Charlton would pay but wouldn't take much of a hit to move him on Yeah, considering he was on the brink of signing for Derby before we swooped in surely he won't be on that much.

A mate of mine who is a Charlton fan had heard he was about to be announced. Think he'll be quite a good appointment for them. Wouldn't be suprised if Holden tapped into a few of our fringe players to send out for a loan spell with him down there in the capital. DWP or Bursik wouldn't be bad options. Flint maybe? I'll drive the useless fucker down there myself.

Would be a good move for all concerned. AN's thankfully given up on him already. A bizarre signing all round really.

I think they've always had importance, look at Clough / Taylor the partnership. Fergie also built his success on having someone he could trust alongside him who made important decisions. Carlos Queiroz as a tactician was highly thought of around the Man Utd players. Don't forget the mighty Dave Kemp either. TP without Kempy wasn’t the same TP. For a second there I thought you’d signed off as TP. That would have explained a lot 😀 BM

Souttar could have (and still could) break down and Jagielka is 40 (one injury away from retirement). Signing Flint wasn’t even an abundance of caution, it was just signing an experienced central defender on a free. It’s a shame our set pieces have been crap, as we may have had some use out of him. I’d still consider bringing him on for the last ten minutes up front to win headers. He won’t score, but neither do the rest of them.

He was surely after physical presence Rob as he talked about it a lot at the end of last season and in the summer. In a 3 Flint has had some decent games for us but in a four he’s found wanting at times for pace I’d say. The Holden connection also would have had a lot to do with it also

He’s also on record as saying he’s a nightmare if he isn’t playing every week, which doesn’t seem to necessarily pass the sniff test for a squad signing.

With him not playing on a regular basis Id imagine he’ll be off come January on loan somewhere. He does turn up most games though even when he’s not selected which you can’t say for all our squad at times

I wouldn’t say he’s that much worse than most Championship defenders with the ball at his feet. He should have been accompanied by two defenders who have pace either side of him. Instead he was given Fox and Taylor/Wilmot. The fastest of the three there is Wilmot, who’s really just about average. In the Championship, a defender is either decent with the ball at their feet or solid defensively. Very few are like Souttar and the ones that are, are likely to move on soon enough. You need to balance a squad by bringing in players with different strengths. As for his comment, show me a player who doesn’t want to play every week and you’ll show me a player who doesn’t much care about the game.

That's the point though isn't it, we didn't have the players to accommodate him, so we shouldn't have signed him. We shouldn't have been so committed to a back three if we didn't have the mobility or reasonable ball-player in our back line to be able to do so. The lack of that balance in the squad is what did for MON ultimately. It isn't about not wanting to play every week, it's about self-confessedly being a disruptive presence if you're not.

He's the worst player in the division with the ball at his feet, makes Baath look like Baresi What has really surprised me is that apart from one game at Blackburn where he was a collusus is how easily he's been knocked about As for pacy defenders they are in the Premier League only really dozy (but quick) ones like a Wayne Thomas are in this league
