Some Players always have their first and surname name mentioned in commentary.
I’ll go first: Junior Hoilett, never just ‘Hoilett’

I imagine it happens when there are 2+ players with the same surname, such as brothers. I don't remember, but I imagine commentators always said Frank de Boer or Ronald de Boer rather than just de Boer.

Why do they always say Trent when referring to Trent Alexander Arnold? It can't be as its double barrelled etc as they say Oxlade Chamberlain or Harwood Bellis etc.

I’d imagine that when they played in the same team, Phil and Gary Neville would always be mentioned by their first and last names.

I suppose you know you have made it when you only really have one name people actually use, Pele.
Gazza became just Gazza in later years but commentators rarely called him that and that one was perhaps more notoriety.

I’ll go first: Junior Hoilett, never just ‘Hoilett’ Junior Hoilett isn't his actual name though, can't remember without a Google but not his actual Christian name, Junior a nickname . John Harley another one. Just had a quick look ...His surname is Hoilett Jnr. David Hoilett his real name

Mike Pejic wins.
If he ever gets mentioned by Nige then he not only gets his full name used but also his life history and CV read out.

Hugh John's on Star Soccer on Sunday always used to do it with John Marsh, but always called him Jackie Marsh. Never understood why.

Solly March stands out for me. Don't know if I've ever heard a commentator just use his surname.

Richard Illingworth played cricket for England while Raymond Illingworth was the coach. To avoid getting them mixed up, Richard became known as “Harry”. Always thought they could have just called him Richard.
