I had Glandular fever when I was a kid and it affected me for a long time simply don't understand why he is being picked This.. desperate manager is the only answer. Seems the majority of posters on here think a player returning from a serious career threatening injury who then goes down with a not insignificant viral illness should somehow be the saviour of our season. As ABC once sung “Excuses have their uses but they’re all used up”

He's a natural goalscorer man, come on,who do you want the chances falling to? He was. His natural goalscoring instinct used to make him worth having on the pitch even when not in the game. This season his touch has deserted him. Has he scored yet. There have been plenty of opportunities which the pre injury Campbell would have sunk. You can tell his confidence is gone by the number of times he passes when he has a sight on goal and how his shots are all central rather than in the corners. Taking him off at half time isn't going to be a confidence boost. He's only scored twice this season but the goal against Preston is unlikely to be repeated by anyone else in our squad.

Tbh I don't think there's much difference overall, he's always looked uninterested most of the time even when he was doing well and scoring but it's just not happening for him when he gets the ball at the min, a few were asking if he was even on the pitch today but did anyone actually get the ball to him in decent positions, I can't remember many if any tbh.
He's the kind of player you can afford if others are putting the effort in but as it stands no one is so he looks worse than maybe he is.

I agree about his goal at Preston but he can’t dine out on that brilliant finish in every passing game

Just a 'flash in the pan', if he doesn't score he's a passenger. Of course he scores the odd goal, he stands about waiting for it often enough. Has anyone seen him jump to win a ball in the air?..no I didn't think so. A very poor man's Kenwyn Jones and he was seldom applauded for his effort or work-rate, but at least he could be a 'powerhouse' of a player if the mood took him. Campbell needs to 'pull his finger out'pretty quickly or he's no use to Stoke City in their current plight.

He is one of the most overrated players we have ever had, he’s just very ordinary and often just lazy, said it many times, another son of who lives off the back of his dad’s reputation….,

I think he would be successful in a successful team.
He must show more on the training ground than he does on game day because on game day he gives a excellent impersonation of a lazy so and so.

My take on it is that Campbell must show more than just glimpses of what he can do. You can't play 6-7 games and only have 1-2 decent games! If he isn't able to produce better performances on a regular basis I'd put him up for sale. Some of his performances this season have really been crap where his contribution has been close to zero!

There is no doubt he is the most natural finisher at the football club. Anyone who has watched him come through the ranks must know that. During that purple patch having Fletch doing some donkey work and Powell playing him in he looked top notch.
However, and it's a big issue he has been nowhere near a goalscoring position for ages. His anticipation has been poor, his pace only evident occasionally and without that side of his game he's a ghost.
His all round game has always been "iffy" to say the least.

Should he even have been playing having had glandular fever?

You can often tell within the first five or ten minutes if he’s up for it and yesterday he clearly wasn’t. Should’ve been hooked off at HT at the latest. He’s becoming an enigma.

There was absolutely no chance of him getting into that game yesterday. You have to get the ball up there for a start. Not sure yesterday’s game is the one to go after Campbell for. He could have hooked any of them for Fox at HT.

Waister - couldn't manage to stand on the grass for more than 45 mins. Poor soul, he must have been dreading the 2nd half.

He doesn't even deserve a place in the squad at the moment. He needs to reboot himself someway. A spell in the U-21's is what he needs really, but what will that do for his confidence? I reckon it's in his own hands where he goes from here but I don't see many signs that's he's mentally strong enough to improve back to what he used to be.

Should he even have been playing having had glandular fever? We don't know his condition, the club medics do. Not like was a one off these last few weeks

Should he even have been playing having had glandular fever? Symptoms often only last a couple of weeks so yes.In a fit professional athlete recovery should be quick. However not sure if Campbell fits into the fit professional athlete bracket.
