If they'd damaged a 50 million painting, surely that would be serious jail time?

Well, after this mornings government announcement I'd expect to see a lot more protests going on. It's just embarrassing 100 new licences probably equate to decades of drilling. Next time we tell anyone else to stop digging or drilling at COP they will rightly call us hypocrites and carry on. The CCS is a sideshow, in the last three days he has essentially decided to play with climate change and populism for his own political ends. I thought during the leadership he said he couldn't face his children if he didn't care about the environment. More bullshit. It will be interesting to see what is in the Kings speech today about new North Sea licences

It will be interesting to see what is in the Kings speech today about new North Sea licences Why do they keep making sequels,? The first one was piss boring. Not even a car chase or a bird with her norks out the king has moved on nearly 100 years now, plenty of murder, deceit and illicit affairs to write into the storyline.

The pair of twits need punishing and punishing harshly. Absolute deluded clowns they are.

And they probably will be punished - I'm sure they expect to be and will also probably enjoy their day in court. However there's no need for anyone to stoke it with false claims of damage or faux outrage. Let's face it - if a Valasquez had been nicked it wouldn't have merited a mention on these pages. It's all about demonising people some folk don't agree with.

When 90m quid paintings get nicked its generally big news so could easily have ended up a thread here discussing how stupid it is that a painting is worth that kind of money. And as for demonising people who go around taking a hammer to renound works of art then I say fair play they need demonising for being the absolute sausages that they are. Nowt to do with me agreeing with them or otherwise. I've no time for the wankers.

Why would you take a hammer to anything for publicity in the first place for nothing but public attention ? Is a valuable work of art, no matter if you know the piece, artist or not and shouldn't suffer at the hands of anyone after surviving all these years because they want nothing more than to make headlines.

It didn't suffer. It wasn't damaged. Hitting toughened glass with a safety hammer was never likely to damage it which they no doubt were well aware It was a symbolic stunt because as the video explains it was actually damaged 100 years ago by a sufferagette. I find many of their stunts cringeworthy but so long as they keep getting the attention - which the Oatcake seems happy to contribute to - they'll carry on doing it.

I don’t believe that damaging property is a good way to bring attention to the issue. It honestly wouldn’t shock me if people doing this know nothing about the movement but are just looking for an excuse to be crap people.

Fir sure They seem to be a clique of self entitled posh folk ...possibly fans of quiche and the Edinburgh Woolen Mill who have jumped on this Same as the Flat Earth Society..an endless line of people who live with their Mum, have LOTR memorabilia and get excited about a new Star Trek series. Certain groups seem to attract a certain type.

You seem more concerned about the types of people that might be demonising them. I think a pretty broad spectrum of people with differing political and environmental opinions will all be able to conclude that what these people are is narcissistic bell ends who in reality need a good bloody hiding. Wanton vandals plain and simple who could have done serious damage to a work of art. They are pathetic.

Not sure I'd like a night out with some of them either but I do wonder who will be on the right side of history 50 years hence.

Is only a matter of time until someone is killed with this traffic nonsense and the blame will be proportioned to someone going about his/her daily routine. These people don't have the right to cause criminal damage, cause disruptions to folk going about their daily routines etc, no matter what their message is.

Think I'm probably right to be concerned about folk that advocate anyone getting 'a bloody good hiding' as I find violence considerably more abhorrent than any vandalism. Perhaps best if we don't discuss it further.

Not sure anybody actually agrees with their stunts, but that very much isn't the point. It's not a popularity contest, nor is it about making people think they'll join them on the basis of a smashed up painting or traffic jam - it's about raising the profile of the issue. Strongly worded letters to the Telegraph don't really achieve the same kind of reaction or prominence.
