Our new Taggart.
I think in the championship it is always a good idea to bring in an old head at the back - perhaps we could look at someone like Johnny Evans for next season. Someone with a good career who can Marshall a defence

Someone with a good career who can Marshall a defence Is there any reason Jags couldn’t still do it? Doesn’t seem to show many signs of creaking just yet, I don’t really know why he was dropped at the start of this season

He has been excellent
It also helps with a decent right back and centre half partner than can run a marathon

Not sure Jags can play a 3 game week.. Surely not Flint Tuesday 😳😳 I think he can because his position doesn’t require the stamina of 23-year old who’s running up and down pitch for 90 min. My biggest worry is he’ll get injured before Souttar returns. A back three of Jagielka, Souttar and Wilmot or a back four of Jagielka, Souttar, Wilmot and Fox will be the best in the league.

The defence looks miles better than the opening games of the season.

Because O'neill had lost the plot? Sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face Thought he was injured? I'm sure Neil said he was only just back from an injury, played unfit v Sunderland because we were in dire straits for central defenders. He wasn't even on the bench for all the other matches so it would seem he wasn't available.

Isn’t that why he wasn’t just thrown straight in by AN?

Someone with a good career who can Marshall a defence Not quite sure about that. I always felt like Taggart was a) head and shoulders above our other defenders and b) had an influence that extended to the full backs as well. I can’t see Stoke live any more so you miss the communication, but he doesn’t see that talkative on the stream.

I think / hope AN will talk to Jags about how he feels, no-one knows his body as well as Jags himself, and if fit, he plays. Every game he plays is a learning experience for Wilmot, Fox and Sterling...has to be a good thing

Doesn’t seem to show many signs of creaking just yet, I don’t really know why he was dropped at the start of this season I always thought it was part of a plan to replace him with younger players and leave him as back up, which I suppose is sensible at his age because no matter how good he is, you shouldn't really be making any sort of long term plan involving a 40 year old player. The problem was that Taylor didn't push on as we hoped and Flint has been poor so we've had to bring him back in and fortunately he's still up to speed and still looks our best defender. He definitely needs a contract extension to the end of the season. But long term, we obviously need to be looking for a replacement.

I've far from written him off and I think he'll develop into a good player like Souttar. But for me it was the right decision to take him out of the team, he had a couple of stinkers where he really struggled particularly in the early Neil games and our league position was such that we needed to take action to stabilise things and bring in more experience. If Souttar comes back before Christmas and hits the ground running, I'd he tempted to loan him out again in the second half of the season to League One to get him some more experience.

I actually think he’ll rest Jagielka on Tuesday and bring Flint in for 2 reasons 1-his height against their obvious aerial threat 2-Can a 40 year old play 3 championship games in a week? He’s a credit to his profession though at his age Pity we haven't got better than Flint to bring in.. he needs to raise his game as he's looked like a bad decision so far. We have. Taylor.

I'm sure discussions will have taken place and it will all get sorted.

Rumour on the Boro board that Oshea coukd be going there as Carrick’s assistant. Possibly room for a coaching roll for Jags to fill? Along with continueing as a player obviously.
Neil certainly seems to like him. Guess he’d have to do his badges mind

If he hasn’t done them already at 39, then it suggests he’s not that bothered about the idea of coaching.
