Had to reduce the thermostat to 14 as I’ve woken up a couple of times to the heating being on. I’m glad I’m single, there’s no way you’d get a bird to settle for that temperature. It was set at 19 with my ex and that was an argument!

I had 2 power cuts this week already I thought they were getting us ready for it. The teatime one particularly focused the mind.

Wife kicked me out of bed this morning to sort wee lass breakfast out and switch on heating for an hour.
House is toasty then wife gets up and leaves the back door wide fucking open because the dog's apparently been farting all night.
Spent a fiver probably, house is colder than when got up and the dog's arse still reeks so mint start to the morning:)

Almost everywhere you turn there are these blackout “plans” that the media are shoving in our faces. One thing I’ve learned from covid is when the media start pushing this stuff it’s 100% going to happen. Something we are getting conditioned for to “reduce our usage” all part of the net zero green plan You can guarantee though that your london/Manchester/Blackpool etc will be lit up like a Christmas tree still (literally) they should switch all that bollocks off before touching our homes

Lit up like Blackpool at 10pm last night.

I finally relented and put the heating on tonight, at least I smashed my end of October target.

Anyone still not turned on the heating? 😁 Mine is fucking on!!! Still set at 14 but when it pops on I’m leaving it on and even cranking it up to a tropical 17 if I’m feeling fruity!

Still trying not to use it too much but this week we've hammered it because I just can't deal with sitting in the cold.
Using oil filled radiators in between to keep rooms warm

Using oil filled radiators in between to keep rooms warm Just having the heating on for two or three hours per day/night has really brought home the rising energy costs. It’s fucking ridiculous and it’s going up again from January 1st. Need a poll tax style mass refusal to pay for it. Don’t know if it’ll work but I’m fairly well paid and am starting to struggle a bit

Looks like from Monday it's turning milder again, so that should help. I'll go back to our usual pattern of 2 hours in the morning and 2.5 in the evening

Hopefully they’re entitled to some kind of payment but many won’t I’m sure. Loads will slip through the net unfortunately

Pretty much doing the same. We don't have a thermostat, so we work on the principle that it should be just warm enough not to need to put a coat on.

Yesterday I found the red and white striped hat a housemate knitted for me at uni.
Absolutely chuffed, lets me knock the heating down another degree.

Loads will slip through the net unfortunately my daughter is being hammered with her heating costs she's working over 40 hours every week atm just to survive.dont get me wrong she could do 20 hours per week and get the rest of her money made up in universal credits...but she's alot like me I've always worked for everything I've got...but she's doing it so herself and my granddaughter just get by each month...she always knows though dad is always there when it really gets tough for her.

I have mine on for 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes at tea time and 30 minutes just before I go to bed for about 2 weeks, though for the last couple of days I have also had it on for a couple of hours in the morning with just the living room radiator turned on.
Mind you it was 6.9C in my bedroom when I got up this morning, even after my bedroom radiator had been on for 15 minutes, so I might have to have another think.
I don't think I realised just how much the flat underneath warmed my flat. Last year I hardly had the heating on and used a 4.5 tog duvet all year round.
It is either that or over the last 12 months I have become extremely nesh!

Our kitchen has a conservatory built on to the side of it(which is very dated) and it's been about 10 degrees in there for the last week or so.

During this cold snap I finally relented and put the heating on. 40 minutes in the morning at 16c (the thermostat was showing 13c when I got up), 40 mins at lunch at 16c, and an hour in the evening at 17.5c. I'm currently waiting (anxiously) for our energy bill from BGas as I sent them the meter readings for the last 4 weeks earlier today.

We are quite lucky as not struggling for money really but can't imagine the struggle some people are going through, it's disgusting really.

The standing charges are a joke, if you skimp on putting it on, you’re still getting hammered.. I’m just using and will worry about if after xmas. Can’t believe there’s people sitting in the dark wearing coats, it really is fucking scandalous

Can’t believe there’s people sitting in the dark wearing coats, it really is fucking scandalous The standing charge is ridiculous. My Mrs refuses to have a direct debit for energy so we pay a higher unit rate. Pretty sure it's the best part of 80p per day just on standing charges for G&E. We're lucky to live in a new house and we have solar panels so our energy use is a fraction of what others have. Her Mum is regularly hitting £12 a day and is really mithered about it. If Britis Gas forces the Mother-in-Law on me as a live-in lodger I'll be going up the loft and digging out my dump pouch to sort Putin out personally.

It must be because you live in your own houses?
I live in a decent appartment. The lights in some rooms are constantly on. The radiators turned on max. It's like a sauna in here.
I expect to get a 255 SEK (£19) energy bill in January.
But I will also get 695 SEK back in February, a compensation for higher energy cost.
