That’s why you have a squad not a team. Lack of cover in wide areas and lack of physicality in midfield were very poor choices highlighted by plenty of folk not being payed £1.5M pa to see that. Injured 1st choice players 1 x Centre Half 2 x. Wing Backs (ps + we’ve just brought in another who is injured) 1 x Central Midfielder 1 x. Defensive Midfielder 1 x. Left Sided Midfielder + 1 x Powell just returning with no pre-season How long will it take each individual player to be match fit? How many automatic replacements do you expect from free agents and loan players? We aren’t Man City Trying to be balanced on behalf of MON and AN!! Each faced/is facing the same problems

Each faced/is facing the same problems MON had control of the situation to mitigate the problems for months AN for a few days. We have an injured LWB and his cover is that good we've loaned him out to Port Vale. We have 1 physical midfielder injured, he's the only one in the squad. We have two slow CB's and one young slow CB plus Ben Wilmot the other CB is returning from serious injury. That's without even looking at the goalkeeping situation. There are some very decent players in the squad but it's make up is a complete and utter shit show. As for what we've bought in it's not cheap as you try to imply, we've bought in one old very expensive striker we didn't need and one young I assume fairly expensive striker on loan. A midfielder from a Premier League club who I assume is fairly expensive whom non of the three managers we've had this season seems overly keen to play. An old slow CB on decent money who's about as mobile as an electric oil tanker. Yes they have faced the same problems but only one of them created them our Summer business was rubbish and not cheap rubbish either.

Yes they have faced the same problems but only one of them created them our Summer business was rubbish and not cheap rubbish either. We paid virtually nothing in transfer fees and the wages of those "expensive" players is less than those we moved on. Nobody can say whether the transfer business has been rubbish or not because we haven't had the luxury of being able to pick from a full strength side. However from what we have seen Smallbone, Kilkenney, Fosu, Delap, Clark, Gayle and Laurent have all shown some promise and not one of them has looked like a total dud. In the circumstances we've done some good business the issue isn't the quality of the players, it's getting then to perform as a unit.

I’ve no idea what formation he’s going to play but I’m sick of seeing Baker stifled as a defensive mid. I’d bring Kilkenny in and start Baker in the Powell position and bring Powell off the bench later. Apart from that I agree. Agree with you that Baker is wasted as a CDM (even though he does it well), but he’s not a No 10 either. We should still be starting Powell if he’s fit. Couldn’t decide between Taylor or Kilkenny on the bench, but went with Taylor. So I would go 4-3-3 with: Bonham Sterling Wilmot Jagielka Fox Powell (right) Thompson Baker (left) Brown (right) Delap Gayle (left) Subs: Bursik, Flint, Taylor, Fosu, Smallbone, Wright-Phillips, Campbell

Thought I read earlier in the thread that Sterling was being targeted for this game. If he’s not ready, no choice but to shift Wilmot to RB then Taylor to partner Jags in the middle.

No excuses for a team full of square pegs in round holes tonight with our best players shoe horned into unfamiliar positions Blackburn showed it can be done with the numbers available

Nice rendition of the national anthem. The wrong words and about 3 seconds ahead of the music.

Smallbone reminds me of Stephen Ireland - mostly because of the hair (or lack thereof)
Christ I would kill for a prime Stephen Ireland in this side
