I thought it was Holden's fault that they had so much joy down our right. It was crying out to go 5 at the back and double up on their best player (Brereton-Diaz) 2nd half — Holden seemed to realise that it was a problem and just made it worse by swapping Wilmot, who was doing alright whenever he was anywhere near Brereton-Diaz, with Fosu, who was just as nowhere him but then much worse at stopping him whenever he got close. Leaving it at that when it was clearly a shit mess and then the questionable forward subs (Gayle and Brown off whilst leaving a knackered Delap and a poor Clucas on) was very bad. Lucky to hang on in the end. I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Neil told John Coates that he wouldn't be needing Dean Holden so to get rid of him there and then after that. Holden was relived of his duties at the end of the match...... Doubt that very much. No way he would not have known for me.

I wonder .. how many, and whom, ...in this current squad, will now be having to look for new teams when the transfer window re-opens. And how many new players does Alex Neil plan to bring in. And on what budget will Neil have. Or will he want to, or have to, embark Stoke on another musical chairs round of swapping and changing players. Those who wanted MON gone, will surely have high expectations that Neil will not disappoint them. Nevertheless, Peter Coates has shown his ruthlessness by dismissing MON so suddenly. A clear message that Alex Neil must well realize by taking up this challenge. And how many of the backroom staff and coaches will Alex retain? Or just De Lap?.
