I'm sorry, but I disagree with this 'after 30+ years old, they're out of a job' bollocks. What is stopping them doing a massive number of jobs ??? they may not be on £100,000 p/w working as a pundit, or as a coach, or as something they have never done before, whether it be within football or not. But to say their careers are over is shit. There's a programme on Sky at the mo about ex-footballers doing 'normal' jobs now, and they seem to be loving their lives. The only thing that would stop a footballer from getting another job would be arrogance. Just my opinion though... Edit to say: back on subject though, if that £300,00 p/w is true, then it's a sodding disgrace.

Money has ruined the beautiful game indeed Chelsea, Manunited, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all rich, Thats why they can even stay in the Premiership. In my opinion players should play for the team they grew up supporting, Or where ever they were born. Stoke would be top of the prem if things like money weren't so important.

Still, at least his girlfriend Nereida is only with him because of his humility, sparkling wit and repartee.

Surely, Ronaldo needs a girlfriend like a fish needs a bicycle? ???
Anyway, the BBC site gave him a less than glowing report for the match against Germany, even suggesting his culpability in one of the opposition goals. this must be a sign that they know he will not be playing for their 'favourite club' next season.

It is bloody ridiculous but you have to put it into some context. Jonathan Ross got somewhere around 18M for 4 years from the BBC. I quite like him but 93K per week.
Who provides the most entertainment to the widest audience, has the best salable value and is worth an estimated 2.5 billion in investment terms?
That's entertainment folks! No longer just about football

these obscene wages will only stop when a big club goes bust and I really hope its Madrid. This is the club that almost went bust and was bailed out by the local government who purchased their training ground for a vastly inflated price and leased it back to them for a pitance. If that in itself isnt disgusting enough, they clearly havent learnt the lessons of the past with disgraceful wages offers like this.

I think everyone's missing the point here, as much as I disagree with the sums being paid to players it is not their fault football club Chairmen are stupid enough to offer obscene amounts of money to players. I know if someone was to offer me £300k a week I'd snap their hand off, even though I think it's a ridiculous amount of money.

Dont think people would disagree with you Mark. Anyone of us would snap their hand off for 300k / week. It is the clubs who are at fault.

OH and when you here managers saying they are tired it makes my blood boil (rant over for now)

Dear Mr Schuster
I understand that, as manager of Real Madrid, you are willing to offer Christiano Ronaldo £300,000 per week to play for you. I would be prepared to save your club over quarter of a million pounds per year by doing the same job myself for only £295,000 per week.
I look forward to hearing from you and discussing my generous offer further.
Yours sincerely Malvern

I'm not a mathematician, but £300,000 a week, according to my reckoning, is £15.6 MILLION a year. Totally unacceptable and I cannot see how anyone can argue otherwise.
Apart from anything else, what could someone spend that much money on?

The guy is an idiot full stop, yeah he did have a great season but surely he's got to recognise what his manager and club have done him him over the last few years.
Firstly when he was a young (er) lad Ferguson sent him home for a month mid season to see his family etc and then after the last world cup Frguson again sorted him out when we all wanted him shot.
Yeah the money he's being offered is great etc but he's 23 so has plenty of time to rake in as much as he wants.
Interesting that Beckham come out this week week and told him to stay put!!!
Send him on his way!

he's a shadow of the player Arshavan is.
It really slays me whe I hear some SToke 'fans' have bought season tickets to see the 'best players in the world' at the Brit!?!?!
As a proper SToke fan, can I say that I hope that our lads in red and white kick several shades of pooh out of whatever moves so that the mnighty Potters win!
You go to Stoke to see Stoke win. End of. Period. Etc.

"they do have short careers though compared to normal men"
Do the maths ffs: Normal Man averaging say £30,000 a year = 30,000 x 48 yrs = £1,440,000 in his life time.
Average Premier League Footballer with career of say 8 years as player averaging £25000 a week= 25000 x 52 x 8=£10,400,000 in his playing career.
Top Premier League Footballer with career of say 8 years as player averaging £125000 a week= 125000 x 52 x 8=£52,000,000 in his playing career.
Ronaldo with career of say 5years as player for Real Madrid averaging £300,000 a week= 300,000 x 52 x 5=£78,000,000 in his playing career just with Real Madrid.
Most players careers will last for longer than 8 yrs and top players earn as much again through sponsorship, advertising, image rights etc etc.
Yes players wages are an obscenity
