Wow Dave, is MON going down in your estimations? I thought you liked him? His team selections are completely unfathomable and border on the ludicrous. Is any comment necessary.

Exactly. I don't get the wrap him in cotton wool sentiments on here. He's a fucking professional footballer. He's no Kevin Ellison or Wes Hoolahan , spring chicken, get bloody on with it. How soft are today's players? Liverpool were champions in 65-66 when players tackled hard on frozen pitches and they used just 14 players all 42 match season, plus Cup matches, etc. Yes and if that team played a game against even the worst Premier League teams of the modern age they’d be completely obliterated. It’s nothing to do with being soft.

What's going on with Ostigard? Superb for Coventry last season and wanted again by Robins last summer, but seemingly not fancied by O'Neill? I think he’s been massively overrated on here and Twitter by our fans but his last few games for us he’s been fine and didn’t deserve to be dropped for Chester. Fox shouldn’t be playing at CB. Fox was crucial to our shape and performance yesterday. Having a left sided centre back who is quicker than all our other available options helped in defence but also improved the delivery to Tymon. It was a really Smart Selection.

First half Fox was the weak link and they were able to get in easily 2-3 times on his side because he was all at sea. He improved second half.

Second half I though the back three managed perfectly adequately

Second half I though the back three managed perfectly adequately I just thought they were the reason Davies had so many saves to make tbh. They weren’t abhorrent but we gave them way too much space. Like the header in the first half. Batth totally misjudged it and Fox didn’t cover. Shouldn’t really be happening.

Thankfully they couldn’t finish for shit and we were uncharacteristically clinical.

Is any comment necessary. Feel free to comment! ludicrous statement. He sees the players training each day, knows what knocks they are carrying etc. Picks his best team from what's available and obviously must be getting it right most of the time as is shown by our league position. If you complained about his slow reaction to changes during the game, I would be more sympathetic. 6 months ago everyone feared that we would be getting a points deduction due to FFP. and fighting relegation and trying to hang on till June '22 till we could offload players and begin a rebuild. Instead we are in the playoff positions, despite being without our best players. How is it that when we lose it's all his fault and when we win we were lucky. Even Bayern has given up complaining that we are playing the wrong formation. MON is far from perfect but I would suggest that he knows a little bit more about assembling and managing a team than you or I do.

Not saying you’re wrong and I always wanted 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-3-2 but don’t think we now have the first team squad or back up for those formations.

Bar a DM needed for both positions I think we’re a right back off a really good 4231. 3 at the back is ok and suits the wing backs. But I’m not overly convinced by anything else with it long term.

I’m assuming Tymon takes the left side of the 3 and who on the right? Brown or Campbell? Does Campbell go up front? More questions than answers with the current squad. Just can’t see it with O’Neill as manager.

I think you have a point but there have been enough games where teams have scored against us with their only chance. We also missed a few chances ourselves including Batth's free header among others. I was glad to see a few of our players having a shot for a change even if some of them were embarrassingly bad. Why does Sawyer not shoot when he gets a chance to. He scored a fine goal some time ago. I also thought that Tymon helped to shore up our left side especially in the second half.

Oh it is and overall it was a good performance and a game I thoroughly enjoyed watching and we deserved to win. I thought our attacking play was brilliant.

It was a really Smart Selection. I thought the back 3 left way too many gaps and we were lucky they didn't score. Until they gambled near the end their forwards didn’t have a look in. Noticeable how much better shape was with Fox both in and out of possession -Vrancic was able to push into the centre back without leaving a gap and the long ball into the corner that we have been vulnerable to Chester was not an issue. Fix is comfortably the best option in the left of a three just as Wilmott is on the right. Powell and possibly Sima are the only two outfield starters to come in to our best XI.

I said in an earlier post that our first goal frightened their defence and they were afraid to push up and leave space behind them. This enabled our iffy midfield the time and space to spray balls around and look far better than they actually are. If Brown can learn to finish then we will have two fast players for our opponents to worry about.
