I’ve heard just as offensive stuff from Ricky gervais but with less swearing but still funny. If it’s funny it’s funny in my opinion. There's no comparison between Gervais and Brown though. With Brown you do get the sense he actually thinks those things and isn't necessarily joking about them. That could be the act, he knows what sells, he knows what makes him money.

Used to love Chubby Brown, and the Macc Lads too. I lost interest in them shortly after losing my virginity. Macc lads are still on tour. They've also been on at a few venues around the country, i even went to the Nottingham one to see if they were as bawdy as i remembered as a kid. Didn't see any protests, just people enjoying themselves. Just older folk singing about beer and sex and chips and gravy. Brilliant and funny. Like others mentioned on here, if you dont like something or get offended easily then don't go. Simples.

And Benny Hill is back on tv Did I read the other week they were trying to ban it , why ? Because it’s of a different age. Not my cup of tea. But it was of it’s time. If something is criminal then yeah but I’m generally against censorship. Just do t watch or listen if you dont like it

In 1976 when The Sex Pistols concerts were being cancelled, it was due to stuffy local councils cancelling them from a moral point of view. Roy Chubby Brown is being cancelled (I believe) by people for political reasons (hard left) which I find a bit scary. I’ve no interest in Chubby Brown but being told what I can or can’t do by middle class leftist oafs, well they can fuck off frankly. If it’s not illegal then let people make up their own minds- simple.

A fictional person created by our local 'newpaper' in order to spin this load of guff to get a bunch of puce-faced bigots blustering about woke lefties and snowflakes and, on the other side, a load of yoghurt-knitting, oh so virtuous social justice cunts branding anyone who doesn't bend to their viewpoint as thick, racist, a sex-offender in waiting etc. All for clicks and comments. We're letting scum media like this divide society just to line their own pockets. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/worlds-gone-mad-you-slam-6250272You can read these cunts like a book (which, incidentally, is something that's a much better use of everyone's time than consuming their brand of divisive shite).

Whilst I think this is surely very close to the truth, you can't deny that these modern day twitter rabbles seem to have a disproportionate level of influence for an ultra-minority group of broadly similar-minded individuals? Cancel culture isn't an imagined phenomenon. These types probably represent significantly less than 5% of the population, yet somehow wield enough power for us all to be aware of their presence. They're the modern day christian-right book burners - except the christian-right's influence was never so disproportionate. They are still an extremely important demographic in US elections at least. This less than 5% though are the epitome of the tail wagging the dog. A lot of that is down to the media and the corporations of course. If it was ordinary people who decided what was important or not, then this less than 5% would be writing their messages in shit on bus station walls. It's ironic really, I keep seeing people who claim to be cancelled sat on news channels, talk shows and daytime TV repeatedly telling me how they've been cancelled....... Slightly confused by this post Prestwich. I can see what you were going for but your point feels fundamentally flawed. Events do get cancelled (most commonly, speaking events on campuses) and it causes controversy, so the cancelled often end up getting tv interviews because 1. News channels love controversy, 2. These sort of incidents are of great public interest as it is an issue of free speech, which, in the opinion of the vast majority, is a bedrock component of a healthy society. The only irony is that being cancelled more often than not turns out to be a net positive for the victims of cancellation, as the vast majority of society believes in free speech; or issues that were confined to campuses become issues for wider society, and people under attack suddenly end up with a cavalry arriving in support. I’m not sure this is the type of irony you were insinuating though.
