Saw Ian Bogie smacking his kids arse in castle once! Met Ruud Gullit in a bar in Amsterdam, lovely chap and surrounded by a gaggle of beauties. Lothar Matheus through work in Berlin I think, gave me a signed football. Hurled abuse at the arsenal players and Wenger as they boarded the coach from a hotel somewhere in South Cheshire, can’t remember the name of it. They were playing us on the day. Met Jan Molby and Steve Nicol when they opened a pet shop in Weston Coyney👀 Stan Collymore after a game at Stafford Rangers.
Ian Bogie obviously the highlight of that particular montage!

Saw Wayne Thomas with his kids in a kiddies playback down my way when he was at Southampton. Didn’t speak to him, but he was massive and looked far bigger and stronger off the pitch than on it. Seen Gazza plenty around my way too, not always in the best of shape. I saw Wayne Thomas in Ibiza just after we gained promotion in 2002 with Gudjon! He was smoking a fag & tried to deny it was him to begin with but soon came round and was chatting all things Stoke. He was excited about Steve Cotterill having just been named our manager! Appreciate he was non league but some on here from the Moorlands may remember a lad who used to play for Leek Town, midfielder Alan Somerville.. He played for Leek under Neil Baker in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley where they lost to Barrow & went on to play for Stafford Rangers and Rocester. Was offered professional terms to play in Sweden but regretfully turned the offer down as didn't suit his circumstances at the time. States it was a big regret not going now looking back.. He's basically a coach at Stafford Town now & the father of my daughters school friend. Got chatting to him the other day indepth about his career and the path it took. He was on Port Vale's books for a time in the Ian Taylor era.

I pulled up to a traffic light & looked across only to see Ed De Goey behind the wheel of his old school open top Jeep wearing nothing but a smoking jacket & a frown. I was thankful we were both stationary. I believe he was the model for the album sleeve photography for Floyd's Wish You Were Here'.

As is customary I'll drop in that 20+ years ago I used to prop up a bar with Noel Blake once annually at work Christmas parties. He always seemed quite grateful to be able to spend the evening engaging in lengthy Stoke/footer chat rather than make small talk with his wife's colleagues.

I'm sure I've posted this before but Noel also ended up teaching at our high school for a bit in the early 00's. We had him for PE and Maths and I don't remember many people playing up.

Used to see The Crouchie every morning disembarking from the Euston - Piccadilly train at 8.30am at Stoke station as I was waiting for my train to work. He'd always get off the train last and walk along the near deserted platform 2, trying to be as inconspicuous as a giant human can be. I never spoke to him (or him me), but he knew that I knew who he was and, after about a year of our paths crossing daily, we were on nodding terms. However, the transitory episodic intertwining of our existences was never to reach its full and natural conclusion given that, after becoming increasingly frustrated with the punctuality of the train service offered, I bought a car and began driving to work. Similarly, Pete's days as a Stoke player were slowly coming to an end and he must have known that his morning routine would soon change forever and his life take another direction, such is the nature of his profession. It's was only a couple of months between me taking the decision to drive to work and The Crouchie departing for Burnley but I often wonder if he thought of me when stepping off that Pendalino each morning, the absence of his one constant providing an apt metaphor for the ebbing away of a somewhat remarkable career. Peter, if you're reading this, then I'd love to silently nod at you again someday whilst imagining what your wife's labia look like. After 4 kids I suspect different to you imagine

Saw Mike Pejic in a restaurant in Kuwait when he was coaching a local team. Introduced myself and had a chat about people we both knew in Bucknall. Graham Shaw rented our house in Clayton and met him a few times. Trained as a PE teacher with Pete Henderson at Alsager. He was one of Lou Macari’s staff during the Stoke and Celtic years.

Not that I met him but my first ever gf bought her house off Geoff Hurst. I once met Roy McFarland on holiday just after he had signed for Derby. I once sat on the next table in a restaurant to Brendan Ocallaghan. I once stood next to Eddie Clamp in a Stoke bookies as he was writing a bet out but couldn’t see what he’d backed. I once sat on the next table to Saun Edwards the St. Helens rugby league player who was very interested in my wife !!! Equally I was on who wants to be a millionaire and Chris Tarant was all over the wife and cuddled her several times ( it was at the time he was having an affair too ) . I met Bojan and he was such a nice guy and we had a chat . In the days of the place and the placemate saw Hudson Salmons and co on the lash

I saw Sam Clucas at a Spar shop in Blurton yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think infetterence is a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I met Nick Powell at a restaurant once - we’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes - we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Nick Powell shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar. I got some time.” And I (being a big Powell fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Nick was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Morocco, to the French Riviera, to the snorkeling in the Galopagos, Nick Powell and I made glorious gay love to each other on six of the seven continents. Pics or it didn't happen.

Years ago I was chairman of the Manchester & Northern Stokies branch. One of the members, Brian Clarke (no relation) used to organise a great xmas party at his house every year, and always got a mystery guest. One year I turned up a bit late. There was a guy at the bar ( Brian converted his garage into a bar ! ) I didn't recognise and assumed to be a new member. The conversation went like this Me : Hello, I'm Malcolm, chair of the branch CG : I'm Chris Me : welcome to the club, do you get to many games ? CG : I get to them all Me : If you ever need a lift to an away game, we can sort that CG : Thanks for the offer but that won't be necessary By this point I was aware of members of the branch and my family watching and falling about in hysterical laughter but had no idea why Me : Ok so how do you get to away games ? CG : On the team coach............................... More hysterical laughter. Then the penny dropped. I was talking to Chris Greenacre . Why do footballers look so different in civvies ?

Shaqiri in All Saints in the Trafford centre a matter of days after he signed for us.
Kavanagh in Valentino’s in about 1998. I had a paper John Travolta mask on my head as I let him know he’s a legend.
Petr Cech on a flight to Prague.
Ashley Westwood (Burnley) at a beach club in Spain in June this year. His leg in plaster.
Stan Collymore in New Street station in 2000. He was bollocking someone on the phone.
Teddy Sheringham 2 weeks ago at Woodford Tube station, he couldn’t work out the ticket machine to park his car so I helped him out. I said ‘you’re teddy sheringham’ and he said ‘yeah’ and then we only talked about the ticket buying process. I dunno what I expected him to say but he didn’t seem chatty to me.
