As we're all in harmony around her appalling comments, hopefully we get a consensus that this is utterly despicable to a Mum with 3 kids.

somehow i think the apologies said through gritted teeth. So,some time ago,you referred to the actions of Apsana Begum as absolutely disgusting. She was subsequently acquitted. Have you apologised yourself, through gritted teeth,or in any other way? Must be a hell of a long time ago because - Who is she? - What was she alleged to have done? - When did she do it? - When did I say it. If I can remember it I might just apologise. You have one hell of a memory. Congratulations.

somehow i think the apologies said through gritted teeth. And it took the murder of an MP nearly two weeks ago and and a court case of someone threatening her (equally despicable) to do so IMO only done so it couldn’t be continually brought up to prove how despicable she can be

Yes it is despicable to threaten to harm a person and their children and should rightly be exposed and punished But it’s important not to allow a few such incidents which I sadly believe almost all MPs suffer in varying amounts To alter the fact that a late begrudgingly given apology after previously refusing to Changes the fact the lady in question is a vile opinionated foul mouthed individual

And so she should, what with her being a public servant and influential member of the opposition who should be above making statements like the one she did, rather than an Average Joe posting on a messageboard read by a tiny percentage of the population. I don't think Frank Field or Aneurin Bevan went around calling people 'Tory scum'.... I know you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer but the comparison is ridiculous even by your standards 😀

It's funny to see the grudging way Rayner's apology has been received on here, especially by many of those who were calling for just such a thing only a few weeks ago! Likewise some of the language used towards it and her, poisonous discourse being essentially at the heart of the problem throughout society, on social media sites like this or in public life. Irony at its finest!

Easily done For once, I'm happy to form a square around the Vojster, she's not too bad at all for a 41 year old...I'd probably put her in the same league as Priti Patel if we're judging just on looks...

There is no doubt that Rayner is aware of this and her “scum” comment drew on that particular part of left folklore. I wonder if she fancied having, by way of legacy, her words being reproduced on a t-shirt long after she pops her clogs. Anyway, she might have been better advised to study the legacy of that remark, specifically Clement Attlee’s response…

Bevan made that ill-advised comment on the set-up of the NHS, something the Tories had fought a long campaign against, throwing obstacle after obstacle in the way. So while it doesn't justify such language, his evident frustration is understandable. Probably worth remembering how much the Tory Party tried to block the establishment of the NHS whenever they claim to be the party that treasures public services, especially if you are a Tory supporter using the NHS...
