Have to say i never felt less threatened at a match in a long time. As we left the main road back to the station was a peaceful amble. Yeh gotta say that was my experience. The brum fans we came across were good guys

I've never found Birmingham to be a friendly place tbh and the fans are representative of that experience.

Just spoke to a mate of mine who’s a Blues fan. His old man saw it kick off (in his 60’s and absolutely no reason to bend the truth). Said a Stoke fan hit a young Blues fan (around 14 y/o). There were about 15 Stoke fans who ran off leaving 1 Stoke fan behind and was the one I assume the OP is referring to. Left bleeding quite badly and the police had cordoned off the area at the end of the game. That's complete rubbish. Fake news.

More romanticism about the notion of hooliganism … zzzzzzzzzzz.
If a stoke fan got punched I’d hazard a guess he was
Pissed
And giving it as good as he got!

'never' ? you sure? have witnessed many random unprovoked attacks over the years both against Stoke fans & by Stoke fans some people are just wankers who enjoy inflicting acts of violence against innocent people minding their own business however can see that sometimes things get reported as such but in reality someone has been a dick & provoked attack genuinely don't understand why people enjoy violence, leaves me cold

I remember the pub at the bottom of the bank on the way upto the Blues Ground. Think it was called the Watering Hole, now a McDonald's. What a den of iniquity that was. Not the best area of Brum at all.

My 14 year old brother got punched in the face by a Baggies fan years ago, he must of been in his forties I’d say, obviously there was a gang of them. Just as the big brave man had assaulted my brother I congratulated him on twatting my 14 year brother and politely wished him well with the rest of the day and that I’d see him in court sooner rather than later, I’d noticed that two coppers who were standing across the road from us had seen the assault and were running towards the bloke as I was speaking to him, seconds later boom he was on his arse and cuffed. Lovely day out in court he got a massive fine and a banning order, he even had the balls to pay for a barrister, when being questioned by the barrister she asked me if I attended Stoke City games home and away, I replied that I did, she then asked me if I knew who Stokes first ever game was against to which I replied I’m sorry but I didn’t get chance to attend that game, the whole court burst into laughter even the judge. She was not a good barrister to say the least.

He would have paid mate 100% as there was a reason he’d forked out for a barrister as he’d be subject to checks.

If it was a random attack then I of course feel for the lad but the likelihood is it wasn’t. Except when it is. I've been punched in the back of the head by two Forest fans walking home from an away game at the City Ground a few years back. Never exchanged any words. Never saw them before. Didn't look at them. Never even heard them coming. Pow. Don't be so quick to judge.

You've all forgotten the hooligan code. They only have it with other hooligans when the numbers are equal, they never attack fans in their colours, Its all organised, not forgetting to write about it later in life so all can glorify it.

There is a simple observation to be made about this debate. If there was no danger of violence and random attack, then West Midlands Police would not have deployed hundreds of Officers and stewards, and blocked off roads with heavy construction equipment for this game

Unprovoked attacks clearly still happen and that doesn't somehow confer guilt by association on the victim.

I remember a game at Burnley where this giant of a ginger bloke came out of a pub to confront 2 lads about 15 in Stoke shirts until he realised about 20 or 30 Stoke fans behind him. He was back in the pub with his mates quite sharpish. Always stuck in my mind as was bad timing on his part and showed him up for what he was. They exist at all clubs. Two or three Bristol City fans by the away end at Ashton Gate were either the bravest or stupidest lads have ever seen when one of the shouted, which one of you girls wants it first? or similar. The next 30 seconds was like Rourke's Drift.

I was deliberately knocked over and had my specs broken by a ManU fan when I was leaving Old Trafford. It was the day they were pipped to the title by Chelsea and we Stokies in the away corner had cheered the news of every Chelsea goal. I suppose he would argue that I (and 2,000 other Stokies) provoked him. I have promised myself that the next time Stoke lose the Prem title on the last day of the season, I will seek out a ManU fan and give him a gentle push! Unfortunately it is possible that I will have gone to meet my maker before that day arrives. Sort it out Scholesy!

I'll always remember a mini bus full of Newcastle Utd fans pulling off the M6 to find a pub and finding the Bird in Hand on Hanford roundabout. As they entered the pub, 3 or 4 of us 16 year olds were sitting outside on the benches with some wearing Stoke tops. Well they found this hilarious, and took great delight in taking the piss out of four kids half their age daring to wear Stoke colours in their own city. It never occurred to any of them that the pub was full of Trent vale Stokies ,many of whom are written about in the naughty hooligan books . It didn't end well for them Newcastle fans ,they left the van behind and the ones that could ran home I think. At the time I believed it was truly deserved.
