Not a straight red in my book, how else was he supposed to go for the ball? Not a straight red you say? View AttachmentThat doesn't tell the story does it?

Not a straight red in my book, how else was he supposed to go for the ball? You’re kidding right? I'm pretty sure he must be.

Johnathon Pearce could even make last nights two games seem boring. By far the worst commentator ever

That doesn't tell the story does it? To be fair no it doesn't and also I am not watching the game, just seen that picture and thought bloody hell that's a red!

Whoever gets through is going to have a hard time fielding a team.

I'm sure the player didn't mean to do him, but any challenge that ends up with a foot on another players knee, either by luck or judgement, is dangerous play and a red card.
No argument really.
Game is working out well for England here. Red cards and injuries galore, plus a gruelling extra time.
It's all lovely, thick gravy.

might be my hearing but keep hearing Matt Bianco Still trying to figure out who its is. I cant see a male singer with a scar on his check or a classy look chick on vocals from Poland. Can't let it pass

Have they got no stretchers at Hampden Park? Sadly they are stockpiled outside Ibrox and Parkhead as thats where they are used on a weekly basis

I'm pretty sure he must be. Actually having seen it back I feel a bit sorry for the defender, that said under the rules it’s a red all day long whether you agree with them or not.....

I don't doubt that it hurt a lot, but the Ukrainian player just ran into him, didn't he?

Red all day long, now confirmed. Never a red card..clearly won the ball and the Ukrainian ran into his foot. We are talking modern day football and even when i played that may have broken my leg so red all day long.

It's dangerous play Red card Was he supposed to just leave the ball? If you can't win the ball without endangering the opponent then yes.

Rewatching it on loop you can make a case for both, you can see he was stretching to clear the ball upwards but the player come flying in at speed, could have jumped over the challenge. Its bad judgement all round

To be fair having seen it in real time, its a massively harsh sending off.... As others have said he clears the ball with no intention of malice, what else is he supposed to do?

Johnathon Pearce could even make last nights two games seem boring. By far the worst commentator ever Now backtracking saying there was no intention from the player. If there's no intention then it can't be a foul, surely?

If there's no intention then it can't be a foul, surely? If it's dangerous play it's a red card regardless of intent This isn't a new rule. The only discussion to be had here is do you consider that to be dangerous play or not In my view every ref would send him off

Was he supposed to just leave the ball? If you can't win the ball without endangering the opponent then yes. He wasn’t trying to challenge him though, he was clearing the ball and the Ukrainian player ran into him as his momentum took him forward.

It's not a red - It's an unfortunate collision that was neither intentional or reckless.
