Speaking of midfield Badou and Etebo will be back in the building in 3 weeks. Could we tease them in to making a bit of an effort if for no other reason than that they signed contracts and we feather their pockets to the tune of 30 thousand pounds or whatever it is each and every week? Worth a couple of phone calls before we spend more money we don't have on someone really bad out of league 1. Every...Single...Year

Striker, if you don't score you don't win.

Every...Single...Year I really don’t think any of these players are an option anymore re we can’t afford their wages under FFP re losing the parachute payments. As I see it we simply have to get them off the wage bill? I don’t think they would want to be here anyway?

If it's just ONE position then it has to be someone to 'manage' the game from midfield. An Alan Hudson or N'Zonzi type of player that can control the game and pull the strings.
So often we come up against this type of player, so seldom we have one in our own line up.

They don't even have to be all that good, just able to dominate our midfield and pick a pass. Historically I have been amazed at some of the less than brilliant players that have run the game against us, often on our own turf. Jimmy Bullard for example...hardly a world beater was he The recent ones are eminently forgettable...so I can't give you names

Striker. Fletcher has been poor second half of the season and expecting Campbell to become the answer after a horrendous injury is neither realistic nor fair. He needs someone up there to lead the line and give him time to get back up to speed.

If we had the best DM in the division how much better would we be? If we had the best goalscorer how much better would we be? Come in it's a no brained When sides know they have someone they can rely on to score they are so much better Our midfield has generally been a shambles. Our striker has been fine. We would have got in the play offs with a midfield. Hmmmm.

Realistically we don't need one........we need at least four including getting in a couple of good strikers, and getting rid of all the useless regulars we have now (not Ty of course).

He needs someone up there to lead the line and give him time to get back up to speed. If we had the choice between a midfielder who can shield the defence and also pass forwards, or a lad to lead the line I'm leaning DM. Teams go for flashy forwards but a dominant midfielder can just open up everything for you. There's a reasonable chance we have a top class (for the Championship) top 4 with Fletch at the tip and Doughty/someone-Powell-Campbell behind. None of our midfielders look close to the level that Fletch/Powell/Campbell have all shown. So that's how I'm thinking about it, that one midfielder would be a bigger step up IMO. But this thread's a tricky question
