Midfield personnel aside it’s the right team and system. Agreed. I don’t get Mikel’s inclusion. I’ve given up on Cousins now as he seems destined to leave in the summer. But surely Thompson offers more, both immediately and in the long run? One would assume that now would be the time to give him that run of 10-12 games with a stable midfield partner and see if he can develop a good bond. There is no point in an Allen and Mikel midfield. We all know it’s crap after 55 minutes, and often not much better before that!

I'd play Allen but Mikel should be benched. Other than that, happy. I'd play Mikel but Allen shouldn't even be in the matchday squad! I bet you moaned constantly about Glenn whelan too and look where that ended

Bar having Cousins in for Mikel, I think that’s pretty much the strongest side we can put out right now (in the best formation too). I'd say it could be a little stronger if you replaced Allen with either Mikel or Clucas along side Cousins.

I think the lack of Cousins points to the fact he's out of contract this summer and more than likely will be moved on. On that grounds, you can understand it. The worrying omission for me is Thompson, as he is here for the mid term and still isn't getting games ahead of Mikel and/or more likley Allen.
Surely you'd have him in alongside Mikel to at least try and develop him for the rest of this season, before moving Mikel on...and hoping that something has rubbed off on Thompson?

What puzzles me is why, unless Cousins has a deal in place somewhere else, we’ve decided he’s definitively not worth a contract but Mikel is?

Just that midfield. And brown.... The CM is the bigger issue for me. No mobility and no forward thinking.

Good team.
Wouldn't have started Mikel or Allen myself, but if they can't turn it on against Wycombe then they've got no hope...

If it was solely down to me he'd be in the team and he'd have a new deal already done. He can't be on that much money and he really is the only midfielder we have that can remotely come close to doing the job he's designed for. I would have thought we should be replacing those that can't do their jobs first?
I guess there is a reason i'm stuck here on a matchday and not in a dugout somewhere though!

I'd play Mikel but Allen shouldn't even be in the matchday squad! Why? Because in my opinion, Mikel is a far better player than Allen and the criticism he gets, in my opinion, is way OTT. For example, Mikel had a really poor game v Norwich and he was simply OK v Barnsley. He was decent v Brentford and good in midweek v Swansea in my opinion. Yes he has his shortcomings, everyone can see that, but he's a far better player than Joe Allen.

Mikel isn't stopping him from being able to find a team mate, and if you're suggesting its because he has track back to win the ball he hasn't been doing that either.

I'd play Mikel but Allen shouldn't even be in the matchday squad! I bet you moaned constantly about Glenn whelan too and look where that ended I hope you didn't bet a lot of money on that! I loved Glen Whelan. He was brilliant and it was an absolute joke that Pulis tried to replace him with the likes of Amdy Faye, Olifinjana, Dean fucking Whitehead and possibly some others as well. From the day he signed, we were always a better team with Whelan in the side than we were without him.

How do you know we've decided that Mikel is worth a new contract? Or are you just assuming that is the case? I’m assuming based on the local media reporting that it’s likely. It would also sort of explain why Cousins can’t buy a start yet Mikel, who’s also out of contract, is apparently first choice.

We've put out a decent team today, the midfield two is questionable of course but I think they'll manage, hopefully he'll swap one or both of them just after half time.
