It never ceases to amaze the amount of posters that want our entire squad replaced each season Don’t get me wrong, all isn’t great about Mikel but be careful what we wish for I agree I am more worried now about our position and left wondering just what we will have left!

I liked Mikel. He didn't warrant the abuse he received/receives.

Our midfield has lacked 'legs' for a few years now, I am not advocating we fill it full of energetic headless chickens, but way more flexibility and energy to get about the pitch are essential for this season.

I think he would have been more liked if he wasn’t left on too long each game. He’s a massive influence to lose.
For all those who are screaming that the kids should be played, who can you realistically think of that would be as good a role model for them than Mikel?

We used to be reguarly linked with an out & out DM player called Emanual Badu during the tail end of Hughes' time at the club. Now available on a free transfer So another player that Hughes was possibly interested in which seemingly as not wanted by another club and/or is the sort of player who likes to run down contracts at clubs and then take a contract with another so that a nice healthy signing on fee can go direct to him and his agent.… bullet dodged and one to totally ignore me thinks.

The one of only 2 players at the club with any true quality/class (Powell being the other), don't blame him if true and best player at the club for me. Never mind, we'll press on with our wave of averageness......competition winners......come on down.

Agree but can we afford? I think he will be missed a lot. Having been fortunate to attend all the games last season, you see a different side to Mikels game than maybe you do on TV. His calmness on the ball, dictatorship and reading of the game is superb. Very highly regarded and appreciated in the dressing room so it'll be a shame if he goes. Saying that, at least 1 of him, Joe or Sam need to go. I'd have presumed it would have been Sam but this changes a few things now.

Good player didnt deserve the abuse he got, he is a player that needs movement around him and didnt get that here. Another one of the wage bill and if we get one in and extend Powell's contract I'd be happy.

Joe Allen will be here this season, so yes, not seen enough of Sorenson to see if he is ready, has a great engine for sure.

Good. Appriciate his quality and experience, but he could only hack it for about 55min at best last season. Would be surprised if he made it to half time another year on.

Not a bad player at all but I want us to play with more energy and we cannot do that with Mikel in midfield. Hopefully with all these departures there will be more than enough wiggle room to bring in some decent players.

I would really like to see Sorensen step up and fulfill his potential. If we are going to rebuild with youth it's a 2-3 year project so the sooner we get on with it the better.

He was 6/10 last season at the absolute best.
I'd go for 5.
He had awful games and had a period November to March where he just generally played badly.
And either side of that he had some good games.
But he was desperately average.
The manager used way too much and that was the biggest issue for sure.
But lets not rewrite history here. He was average at the absolute best and he shouldn't have been given a new deal anyway.

Just seen Scholes at Manchester Airport arrival lounge wearing a sombrero holding a piece of cardboard Mikel going to Kuwait and Scholes getting a job at Chiquitos, this could possibly be the best days business of the summer.

Wherty, you said Clucas doesn't want to be at the club, now you say with Mikel possibly going, he may stay. Why would we as a club want a player to stay, if he doesn't want to be here, for whatever reason?.

Would be surprised if it's true unless they're offering stupid wages and he's going for a last pay day? Would make the decision to let Cousins go look daft if he did leave though. Cousins was never the answer to what was lacking in our midfield. You're right Cousins isn't the answer to our midfield problems. And let's face it, very few of our squad are the answer to anything. But that wasn't the point I was making. Cousins is a solid, dependable if limited player who has proven he is good enough to do a job in that position and potentially for a run of games if we had injury problems. If Mikel does leave, he'd be ready to step in for the first game if we struggled to get a replacement in. Now that cover is gone and Mikel leaving leaves us exposed in that position and reliant on signing a new player who could end up being worse than Cousins or trying an untested youngster who could be anything. I'm not sad about Mikel leaving if he does. I thought he was part of the problem last season and we can probably do better with his wages. I'm just wondering how out of the blue this is because if O'Neill had any inkling that Mikel might leave, he shouldn't have released Cousins.

I agree, Lasse he has really good potential, have seen him play for the U23's a few times, got a really good engine, really calm on the ball, great at set pieces...one thing that really stood out was his range of passing was really impressive, pinging some perfectly weighted quarterback style balls to the forwards. Hopefully as you say his time to shine might be now

Many players don't want to be at their respective clubs, doesn't mean they have to be sold until the time is right.

Defensively he was awful on the whole.
