i always thought bullard and hargreaves were quality when no-one else rated them especially bullard from the stoke team - didn't rate delap, fuller or lawrence when they were signed and how i was proved wrong

I don't think he was particularly disliked but I really liked Gifton as a player. He couldn't run at all but I admired his skill and the way he battled on and got us some pretty valuable goals.

A lot of people though that Paul Williams was absolutely crap but I thought he was much worse than that

Never really understood why there was so much hype over Tony "zico" Kelly, as far as i can remember he very rearly scored from his free kicks and was well over weight

SimonStainrod----Genious!
Paul Stewart----I always thought that he thought 2 or 3 passes ahead of the rest of the team so he looked crapper than he actually was!

Three Grahams. Graham Shaw. Thought he was going to be a legend, really rated him. Sigh. Graham Potter. Genuinely excited by his early form, then realised he was actually, well, pretty much bollocks. ??? Graham Kavanagh. Had some great years- rocket shots from long range, aggresive tackling and launched himself like a lion at Vale players. Then didn't seem to give a toss anymore when he sniffed more money. Passed sideways, toss at penalties and free kicks and always looked likely to get sent off. Then pissed the rest of his adulation up the wall by joining Cardiff. And for England: Steve McManaman. Predicted he was going to be a world beater. Did he do anything for England? Ever?

underated by Stokies: Paul Bracewell - he got boo'd!
overated John Halls as a defender
- how anyone can perceive Buxton to be anything other than very poor is beyond me. he is far too slow to cut it any higher than bottom half of league one.

I think that Buxton used to get a lot of stick just because it seemed he only came along to keep lil Ant company on the bench.
I liked Neil Mackenzie for some reason.

I've always thought Buxton is better than most people give him credit for, his performances at left-back towards the end of the Boskamp season were decent, and he's hardly played since.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Gallagher in the Boskamp season, he scored some quality goals but he could drift in and out of games and offered minimal work rate.

Saw both Devlin and Commons come into the side as young carefree players and take the side by storm, producing things out of the ordinary
A wate of talent on both counts IMO

Kyle and Mama for me, with a jot of sympathy for Buxton. Always liked Junior Potter too, but I reckon quite a lot did.

Buxton may yet come good but will need to work on his speed even more for the prem, but I hope he makes it.
Foley was underrated for his work effort but his final ball often let him down, a little like Russell.
I always thought Sandford was overrated. Good defender but could never pass to a bloke wearing the same coloured shirt. Salif was immense for us at first but I do wonder if we will ever see the same again, the same may sadly be said of Griff

Rikki Dadason
First time, I eventually, saw him play I thought "he's crap" on closer inspection I realised he was much worse than that.
Alan Hudson
Whenever I voice an opinion about a player I am still reminded of the first time I saw Huddy play and I said " I don't think much of him he looks a light weight to me a bit of a cockney southern softy" What we would give to sign the likes of Huddy now. In my opinion one of the best players I have ever seen.

Mama Sidibe
Been slated all season long by naive stokies who think that if you don't score goals your automatically a bad player. Mama has answered his critics with some gritty performances and has been a constant handfull for championship defences all season. A major contributor in the sucess Fuller has enjoyed this year. Not good enough for the prem, but the same can probably be said for about 8 out of our starting 11.

I never understood why some Stoke fans seemed to love Duberry. I thought Rory Delap was doing well when others were slagging him. I was a big fan of Gifton's but continue to be amazed about some people's devotion to Mama. The first player that sprung to mind when reading this thread was Sammy Irvine, much maligned at the time but a very good player. Hoefkens is a poor centre half but a good attacking full back - I think we missed hiom last season.

i alway's stuck up for David Oldfield . He got some really bad stick even during our unbeaten start to the season . Scored an absolute cracker away at Chesterfield !
One player I can remember having on loan that I didn't rate but everyone else did was Tom Cowan ,

Jon Parkin, every1 seems to hate the beast, but he has such a good touch I love the man.
Obviously not prem standard though!
