Weirdly I'd seem to remember him in the 1070 world cup. Different pele I guess!? 1070 - How old are you?

Let's try 1970. Clearly my sense of history isn't much to write home about either!

Blimey, I've not heard a Leo Messi transfer saga like this since the last transfer window.

Higuin, Aguero Dybala, Mascherano- all part of his usual squad. That's a pretty modest list of "superstars". The Argentina teams Messi has played in have been incredibly mediocre, none more so than the one that just won the CA. Obviously they achieved some measure of redemption with that win but they've been in the doldrums, and seen by the public as bottlers and wasters, for most of the last three decades.

He'll sign the contract, I'm sure www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/2207655/leo-messi-not-staying-at-fc-barcelonaDespite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations). As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled. FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life. It would take something major now - but we have seen them before with these 2 parties!

Exactly, Argentina’s team compared to other nations is poor, Argentina’s defence has been known for years to be poor

Top late for Man C to scrap the deal for Grealish and divert to Messi ?
Although you'd think Messi' agent would already have deals lined up for him

Pele also played in an era when defenders could kick the shit out of forwards with impunity. If you don't believe anyone on here, I suggest you take a look at the Hungary v Brazil 1966 World Cup match on youtube. There was hardly a tackle below knee high.

I was about to say the same thing, mate. Defenders basically committed assault on forwards back then. Someone so much as breathes on Messi or one of today’s players & it’s foul play.

It counts, but it’s not exactly a challenge for him is it, playing against some police officers So if they’re scored against police officers they count, but friendlies don’t count - got it. Can we just get back to this offside rule claim - you’re telling me it didn’t exist, is that right?

He’s not the best player of all time- Pele, Maradonna, Zidane have all taken their national sides to glory- Messi has played in an Argentinian side packed with Superstars and finally wins the Copa America. Packed with superstars? Another word for over rated over paid footballers

C.Ronaldo is better and if he had played for Barcelona all of his career would have scored way more.
Messi isn't even neccessarily the best Argentinian.

MLS??? Surely not... I could only really see it being ManC. Not sure he'll fancy the Prem mind you. Maybe PSG Just couldn't see the attraction of the French league. And with Grealish there and Kane possibly on the way, has that ship sailed? He has been linked with Beckham's team for a while I think? Seems unlikely, but you never know. The advertising revenue would be off the charts over there. They could move on from Kane to Messi though. A 2 year deal for Messi is going to be infinitely cheaper than the entire package would be for Kane. I bet Harry's shitting himself ... 😁

Fair enough mate, what about half of his goals against unregistered clubs and also playing Brazil, where the quality of football was and always has been incredibly poor, in their league systems

Surely there's some sort of loophole, like a sponsor paying Messi directly? He could be number 32 like Rooney was at Derby, and that turned out really well.
I didn't expect Messi to stay after handing the transfer request in last year. It looked like it was all over, so what changed his mind? I'd love to see him in the Premier League.
I think playing in another top league outside of Spain would lessen the arguments for Ronaldo being better than Messi in terms of the current best player. I thought Messi, but the longer Ronaldo goes on, the more I edge towards him...
