Remember going there and saying to my mate that Darren Purse at the back and that Joey Beacheum looked well worth a punt. Was Nigel Jemson there that season? Was scoring for fun for a while. Our good pal O'Neill Donaldson as well I think played in the 5-1 game for them. Not entirely sure which game it was, we were in a pub just down the road from the Manor ground but I do think we lost.

Yeah remember Joey, didn’t he go West Ham and didn’t like the travel and ended back up at Oxford again at the end of the season. Also remember Tommy Tynan from Plymouth always scoring past us Went to Swindon and was so so there.

Yes and Purse had a very decent career at championship level and Tommy Tynon little cunt remember going to Plymouth and him getting 3 in a 4-0 defeat and fans burning stoke flags on the terrace, Mills didn't last long after that.

Tynon played in their great cup run and scored on MOTD v someone but forget who. Didn't help that he sounded like a crap 1920's music hall comedian. One of those players like Keith Edwards who scored bags of lower league goals

I'll continue then! There was a narrow high sided dingy walkway behind said terrace which overlooked some sports fields at the back. There were some recalcitrant Oxford youths giving it large in the fields who appeared to have vanished by the time we dejectedly filed out. Funny place Oxford, dreamy academic spires cheek and jowel with the Blackbird Leays estate. they had 1 player Who used to tear us a new one. Joey Beuchamp ( pronounced Beecham).....remember him? I don't, just looked him up, sold by Oxford to Prem West Ham but never got a game there and came back to Oxford and played another 240 matches for them!

Have Oxford still got Gary Briggs at centre back with “Wang” on his shirt?
I got him about nine times for my Panini 86 sticker book. I was only allowed to buy 5 packets in the entire season. It was uncanny. Gary Bastard Briggs, every time.

Have a memory of going to Oxford and standing on an open terrace behind one goal, I think Lou Macari had just left, we lost (of course) have I dreamt this ?! We were always pretty awful there. Seem to remember a couple of hidings at the old ground and a house with a plane sticking out of it. I really hated going there. There was a shark sticking out of a roof near the old ground

I was born and grew up in Oxford - so always had a soft spot for them - but I'm a Stoke fan as my dad's from Leek and used to take me back to the Potteries to watch games.
I was too young to see Oxford in their prime in the 80s; however, my dad would often go up to the old Manor Ground. He's fond memories of watching little-old Oxford against England's best; they should have played in Europe too. Unfortunately, the Kassam is a soulless, three-sided ground on the outskirts of town, and doesn't compare to walking up the London Road to Headington - it had a real buzz to it. Nevertheless, I've still seen Oxford in two Football League Trophy finals at Wembley as well as the Conference Play-off Final, which isn't bad going for a club of its size.
Anyway, come on you Yellows! I'd love to see Stoke playing against them next season - let's hope its them coming up and us staying up, and not the other way round.

I remember a game at the Manor Ground where we were 2-0 down with Chris "Ticker" Hemming sent off within about half an hour.
Ended up losing 3-2 I think.
(Incidentally, worth noting that in the same season we lost at home to Walsall 0-3, which was just one of their five wins all season as they finished flat bottom of the table. Not much changes for us does it!)

I'd like Wycombe to come up, because there's a 100% chance they go straight back down, Coventry and Rotherham will do the same and god knows the financial crisis some of the Championship clubs like Hull will find themselves in next season.
It's a bizarre situation where I'm not sure we won't be relegated this season, but if we're not I'm sure we won't be relegated next season!

That was when I knew we had arrived.
