Love an underdog story - keep it up Jordan lad!

Without Campbell we can’t afford a two that don’t contribute to the attack. We have to go 4-1-4-1 and Allen is better than JOM in that shape, probably Clucas too JOM does contribute to the attack, he often starts it by finding a bit of space and an out ball. He’s the best footballer in our squad, we can’t be leaving him out for Allen, whatever the formation. I agree on Mikel, he does contribute and is certainly one of the best players for sure but the issue is not mainly him, although his defensive play is poor like against Huddersfield. If you have full backs who offer little in attack as we do, then you need 2 midfielders to be active in the final third. If we play Cousins, excellent defensively but limited on the ball, then the other two midfielders have to be an 8 or a 10 or both 8s and Mikel doesn’t have the legs to get forward and back. Mikel as ball player and Cousins as defensive cover would mean using two players for one role - something we can’t afford without Campbell. To play 2 static central midfielders we need either better full backs or another quality forward unless we believe we can keep grinding out results like we are now. I would argue it’s a legitimate short-term strategy but will exhaust the players if maintained - Powell has been running himself into the ground in recent games trying to play both up front and as a third midfielder. With Powell, Clucas and Allen fit ( and it may be a while for Allen I accept) we have to get more out of our midfield. I liked the way we played early in 2020 with Allen and Clucas as a pair with Powell in front. More open defensively but lot of energy going forward. Often had 6 players in and around the opposition box

He replaced Allen during the resumption. Why are people shocked?
The midfield was calling out for him after the Barnsley game, so pleased it happened. MON needs to keep him in now once the injured players get back and then use them all rotationally really.
Just a shame no one else can do the job Cousins does.

They’re not really meant to be final third players

He just gets better and better, throws his body on the line, does the dirty work and can really do the dark arts well.

In cracking form since he’s come come back into the team. Was in great form before he left it as well. Really unfortunate to not have started the season.

He has been the most improved player this season for me.

MOTM for me today again. He’s unstoppable at the mo. I’m not a fan of Thompson as I just don’t think he offers enough. Thought Allen looked good when he came on. Neat and moved the ball well.

Big test of the management if the others are fit as he certainly doesn’t deserve to be dropped or “ rested “

There was one occasion that nearly cost us a goal from poor play. What’s hard about understanding my point?

Big test of the management if the others are fit as he certainly doesn’t deserve to be dropped or “ rested “ I’d go to 4 at the back and let him sit and bring in more expansive players who can win us a game. Thompson’s the one to make way I’d be tempted to move Powell alongside Fletcher.

Looks like he's learnt from Mikel/Mikel has had words
He's using his body much better nowadays
Him, Souttar and Bursik were our better players today

Thought he was poor first half, every pass was misplaced.
But 2nd half he was very good

No coincidence that our defensive record has been so good since he came back into the side.
Sadly, it’s also no coincidence that our creativity has reduced dramatically since he’s been in the side, and therein lies the problem of balance we currently have in midfield.

Just my opinion but I thought every player on the pitch for both sides was gash! I hate this league!

He’s ok but he’s not as good as some making out This. Really struggled in the first half in particular. To me, he looks like what he is: our fifth choice central midfielder, can't knock his effort but limited ability on and off the ball. I imagine we'll see less and less of him with Allen, Clucas and Mikel returning.

Eve, half fit, Allen was probing with his passing in a way we had failed to do until that point. Cousins is an excellent CDM but needs two mobile, higher quality players alongside him.

Whenever he plays we look much better defensively. Much more balanced.
So even though Allen, Clucas and Mikkel are all in contention they should all be fighting to pay alongside Cousins
Bursik
Collins Souttar Chester Clucas
Allen Cousins
Brown. Powell. Ince
Fletcher

What exactly has he learned? Cousins was very good in the resumption and shouldn’t have been dropped this season. Let’s not say it’s because of Mikel ffs 😂🤦♂️

That’s not his issue is it? Indeed he’s been very good on the ball Since he came in (to my surprise certainly) and I only watched the second half today but again his passing was good. Wins it, passes it 5 yards. That’s all he needs to do. And he’s doing it very well.

He’s a lower level footballer who makes up for a lack of ability with determination and athleticism, and fair play to him. The fact that he’s the only midfielder we have who’s capable of tracking runners and protecting the back four is shameful really. His passing is terrible and he offers nothing in an attacking sense. So yes, it’s an issue because one of the higher profile midfielders should be able to do that simple, disciplined work off the ball and also give us more going forward.

No one else does his job. He has to stay in the side even at full strength doesn't he? Definitely. Cousins ? Powell It’s a case of who you slot in. To think otherwise is two things, snobbish and not understanding that a side needs balance and no one else offers it.
