Bully boy Gripper and the original bully called Booger Benson. Couple of strange charracters in that Danny Kendall lad and at a similar time the skinny curly, dark headed girl (can't remember name). My mate thought I was daft in the 80's, when we went out round local boozers after our early 1pm friday finish in that I always made sure we got in a pub with a tv when Grange Hill came on early evening! Imelda Davies was a bad bully

I have absolutely zero memory of Booger Benson, or any Bully before The supreme Gripper. Probably as he was such a strong character and actor. Truly scary. He had the hair and everything. I was such a GH nerd. I even read a couple of the spin-off books. they were well-written. And had words like "gob" and "fart" in them -exotic for a 10 year old

In general if I like a character to that degree, I dislike viewing them in any other context John Hamm is Don Draper and verce-visa. I resented him appearing in Baby Driver Likewise Cillian Murphy is Tommy Shelby and i don't want to see him in any contemporary roles I guess this is why I had such an issue with him in EastEnders. I had stopped watching The Bill by the time he joined. I did however, whoop with joy and point at the screen when I recognised him , despite his cyclops one eye, in some sci-fi drama at the pictures in 1985. Krull or Dark Crystal or some such. It was with the SPACE police scheme (note to self: create thread on SPACE Police school holidays scheme, Hanley, mid 1980s).

That’s a whole new thread and I’m not sure the world is ready for it yet 😂

Inspired by jesusmcmuffin quoting Roland Browning's girlfriend on another thread, i was inspired to think back to my favourite GH moments 1) - Benny (?) shock death falling from tower (V early days) 2) The aforementioned Roland Browning and the on-off will-they wont-they relationship with the girl with dreads. Stayed in France during school trip 3) Zammo and the Drugs -terrible song though. Great girlfriend. Jackie (?) 4) Faye (?) blonde hair obsessed with teacher and claimed she had an affair with him5) Sausage flying through the air at start - made me laugh without exception every week for about 5 years any more for any more. It really was required viewing back in late 70s/early 80s Pretty sure Faye did have a thing with a teacher, Mr King. She bumped into him later at a school fete with his new girlfriend a few months later and flipped Was a gal before Faye who wrote about an imaginary affair with her teacher in her diary and her Dad came to the school and got hold of him but was all in her head. Pretty sure was Claire with Mr Hopwood ? the teacher who got Gripper expelled.

I remember at the time being secretly thrilled by the unusual concept of being bullied by an older girl, cant remember if she ever picked on boys as well but the thought definitely sowed some exotic seeds and in retrospect explains a lot

I liked Imelda, real piece of work. Anyone who hated Gonch and Ronnie Birtles was ok with me

Michael Winner ended up shagging one of the six formers Was it Ro-Land? Just Googled, was Calley....How did he manage that? I mean, Michael Winner Just read also that Janet 'I want to help you Ro-Land' used to live with that utter cock, Russell Brand. She should have stuck with Ro-Land. He was the steady, reliable type.

I think there is a lot of TV snobbery, myself included. When asked to name my top 10 TV programmes of all time, I reel off Sopranos, Lost, Mad Men etc.
But for sheer pound for pound enjoyment, unadulterated rapture, no holds barred addiction and hours of my life lost, you'd go for :-
Grange Hill, Eastenders, The Bill, The Sweeney and Play School

Had plenty of the sort of dreams that boys of a certain age had after that! 😛

Luke Gardener and all his scams Gonch True story*.. my mate went to uni with (the actor who played) Gonch Gardener. He was elected to a position on the students’ union and a few months later was discovered to have been embezzling SU funds and using them to bet on the horses. *by "true story", I of course mean half-remembered idle rumour of the time which is almost certainly without any foundation

Mrs McCluskey? Yes or No? I’m thinking yes! 🤔😮 She had a bit of Mrs Thatcher about her. Miss Partridge had promise. There was a female American teacher who if I remember wasn't bad. Mr Hankin later turned up as the Landlord, Dick Head in 'Bottom'. Obviously teaching proved too much for him

Tucker Stewpot Mr Bronson was a horrible bugger Kendalllllllllll To be fair he did play Hitler in 'Indiana Jones and the last crusade'....suited the part. e was also the site manager in Auf Wiedersehen ,Pet if I remember as well. Claire became a topless model....obviously can't put the pics up, not that I've ever Googled them Danny Kendall, what a character. Just did his own thing. Loved the fact that he was so odd-looking and yet cool in his own way, an anti-hero if you will. didn't need the haircut or the mass of adoring girls (couldn't stand Ant Johnson(?) from the posh school for those reasons, way TCFS) Loved the way he just got up and walked out of class when he'd had enough. I started doing that at work recently in pointless meetings. Surprising how few people question it. Not as much fun now for Zoom meetings of course, you just have to blame bad connection and press 'leave meeting'
