I’ve heard from someone close to the club MON isn’t happy with Tom’s lifestyle off the pitch. Too much going out and drinking.
Boys will be boys.

He’s way better than Smith. Should be playing. Bollocks. He walks around like he's the next cafu when in reality he's terrible. He had a good few games with jones as manager and that's it. If he comes up against any half decent winger with pace he starts flapping like a fish out of water. He puts in a couple of good crosses every few games but when he cant be arrested get back what's the point? Smiths performance vs Swansea was the best performance from a rb for a good few seasons.

If reports regarding Edward's off the pitch antics are right it's no surprise he isn't playing and would explain his regression this season. He could have a half decent career at this level but he's nowhere near the finished article and isn't sufficiently talented to coast at his age. If he knuckles down and works on his game he could re-establish himself in the first team but at the moment Smith is a far more reliable option. Edwards may have the potential to be a better player than Smith but he's not performing and in no way deserves to be playing on the spurious grounds that he is young, one of our own and has potential. He really needs to grow up before his career passes him by.

Unfortunately once Edwards came into the team it began to go to his head and he stopped progressing as people expected. He needs to start over. I’m not sure he has it in him.

He's at a crossroads, he's still pretty young and has every chance of making it and we've given him the backing of a contract. But personally, I think there is something going on with him on a personal level, whether that's lifestyle or mentality. The noise around him and his absence is reasonable circumstantial evidence to back up the assumption. He's not the same player who looked lean and full of confidence towards the back-end of last season in any case. You can't accuse O'Neill of blocking younger players, so I think it's left with Tom to show what he can do.
I sincerely hope he sorts himself and gets back in the first team.

His issues are definitely off-field.
I've mentioned before that an old school friend of mine actually works at the club, and when I was talking to him he said it's very well known there that Edwards has problems controlling his behaviour off the pitch. Apparently, and I'm only recounting what I've been told here, when they returned for preseason he failed all the fitness tests and it was brought to Jones' attention that he'd been out partying a lot and staying up late - which is the only reason why we signed Smith. Jones massively fell out with him.
Always seems to be a lot of rumours circling amongst people my age that he's always having late night parties etc. at his house too.
I certainly think there is something to it given that O'Neill seemingly has no plans to play him either. Appreciate he's still very young, but ultimately this job comes with a lot of responsibility, and one of those responsibilities is to be disciplined and keep yourself fit.

Almost every stoke fan I know under the age of 25 has a picture with Edwards after meeting him out on this piss. He even told one of my mates who had a picture with him when NJ was the manager - “don’t put this on anything for a few weeks, we’re not supposed to be out after a loss”. I have absolutely no agenda against him, I like him but he enjoys a night out.

Also, as I've put in a previous post, there's always murmurings about people going back to his house. Apparently a regular occurrence. Unfortunately it's not the 90's anymore. Top level footballers should all be highly-tuned athletes.

Seen him pissed as arseholes in Hanley a couple of times, so have most of the city it seems.
No coincidence as to why he’s not in the squad.
