Terrible.
Did well for us. When he left I sent him a letter thanking him for his time with us (I was only young) and he sent me a signed photo. Liked him even more after that.

He was great and I can't believe how old he was when he signed for us, or when he got his last cap for England. An absolute model pro.

Very sad news, throughout his career he was a majestic centre half.

He'd walk into my all time Stoke team. Never realised how good he was til he played for us (and he was past his best then). Absolute Rolls Royce of a player.

Very sad.
First saw him play against us as a centre forward for Sunderland in a League Cup match in 1972.
As mentioned above he became a totally dominant centre half who was one of the best headers of a ball I have ever seen and was a colossus in the year or so he played for us.

He played in the first game I ever saw at the vic, gutted for him. Same for me,he was a regal player. Do the club still have/give over one of the boxes for dementia sufferers and carers on match days? Be nice to get him and his wife down for a few games if we do,that's if he's up to the travelling of course.

Sad news indeed. He was a colossus of a player... one of the very best I've ever seen play for us. I'd slot him easily alongside Smithy, Doyle, Bluto, Sergei, Huthy, and Ryan Shawcross as a great centre half. Wish we'd got him now.
My thoughts are with him and his family.
OS.

Great footage that is & was an awesome strike from Watson, pity it never earnt us the draw. I managed to acquire that pale blue away Umbro shirt (match worn) years ago & it's one of my most prized piece of Potters Merchandise. What a squad Southampton had back then, Keegan, Ball, Channon etc..
