Won a free kick, won a corner, took his man on. What utter shite. Went through on goal and completely bottled it. Big chances like that make your career when you have limited ability. He missed his chance. We wont see him again in a stoke shirt. That's a big call. Personally think he's just a bit rudderless at this moment in time, but has all the tools in the locker when a good coach grabs hold of him. When he's back fit, just keep using him as we are, gradually increasing his game time and providing he listens and learns, I'm failing to see how he won't make it.

shit comment about a very promising* player horse shit. You need to be strong at this level. He looked so out of his depth. Ince isn't strong and he's done pretty well at this level.

Verlinden did more in 4 minutes than ince did the entire match from an attacking perspective.

He’s played 54 minutes since he’s been back, I genuinely don’t understand the logic in bringing him back from Bolton only to place him behind Ince who plays no how he performs.
I think he’ll be exactly like Campbell given the chance, give him a proper run of games from the start, not 10 minute cameos and his quality that he demonstrated in a pretty poor Bolton side will come to the fore. But we’re wasting everyone’s time by keeping him here and doing nothing with him.

He was about MOM for what he did in his cameo. Looked like a little boy that can run fast to me. Never make it at this level. Too small and light He’s literally the same height as Pablo Hernandez who has been one of the best creative players in the league for the past few years. He’s 20 and has scarcely played at this level, you can’t write him off based on his size at this stage.

Looking thin on the wings now, I was amazed we didn't go in for a winger in January I was convinced we would. Totally agree. A winger and a proper left back were absolutely crucial and what do we do? Sign another non match fit f'ing centre half to go with the shed load we already have, while the glaring holes and weaknesses in our team are apparently ignored AGAIN.

He is by far one of the most exciting young prospects we have had for aslong as I can remember and you are saying we won't see him in a stoke shirt again?? I would give your head a massive wobble if that is your genuine opinion mate because the lad has something really special. Do you always say youngsters Coming through to the first team should be scrapped straight away or is it just Verlinden you don't like? Disgusting shit comment by the way.

Not getting carried away about him like some but certainly a decent player in there. If he can do it at the higher level of this league time will tell, showed his pace tonight and a typical challenge from them put pay to that. Would like to see him be more direct as with pace like that a more experienced player will run across his markers like he had the chance to do tonight. Did the ref actually have a word with their full back?

Verlinden is a young player with potential and needs to be given the space and opportunity to develop without being hammered for not being the finished article.
However, he looks a long way away from being ready to play at this level on a regular basis, so there are some big decisions to make next season about how to best develop him.

O’Neill was furious when he wasn’t ready to come on Exactly the same happened at Derby when he was coming on for the injured Tymon who had to carry on playing while Verlindern got ready resulting in the free kick from which Derby scored. First time can be accepted as a mistake but when it happens a second time you just wonder if he learns from his mistakes. O'Neill was furious at Derby too. Not a good thing to make your manager angry twice in exactly the same way.

It's up to the manager/coach to tell them to get ready you're coming on in a minute and even then there's coaching staff giving them instructions, it's not like they're left to their own devices. Sounds to me like a breakdown in communication

I'm undecided on verlinden myself tbh, I agree with mondeo man slightly, for me I'm yet to see what all the hype is, yes he is nippy, yes he is small & agile, i havnt seen yet that he possesses the end product though.
Is this love of verlinden because we have no pace and he does? What are people seeing exactly?
It's a mystery to me how he can get on the bench ahead of ngoy & ince can continuously start. Ngoy got a short cameo, nearly scored but slipped at a vital point, was direct, has pace and has size and strength, decent cameo and not seen since?
I know what mondeo man is saying with regards to verlinden not doing better with that opportunity, I was thinking the same myself tbh

Sounds to me like a breakdown in communication I know they don't and nor would I expect them to but as soon asTymon signalled he was injured Verlindern who was already warming up on the touchline was told to strip. Fully 5 minutes later O'Neill turned to see what was happening and was not happy at all. I was sat right next to the bench. Had Tymon not needed treatment after the 'foul' I suspect Verlindern would have taken a couple more minutes which when a player is on the pitch injured is not good enough. The longer he plays with a muscle injury the more damage he is potentially doing. I have never noticed O'Neill getting so frustrated with any other sub and if it was the same last night it doesn't look good. It was certainly not a lack of communication at Derby and as he was already warming up he didn't have a lot of clothes to take off.

I’m not holding my breath for Verlinden, I have been excited about this kid for a couple years now.
On the one hand he seems to have a lot of stuff going for him, but the attitude around being ready is a bit of a piss take and he does seem pretty light weight. What’s his injury record like? I feel like he was out for Bolton for a bit with his groin and had a couple of stints out in 2018 for our youngsters.... though it could be my memory playing tricks on me.
Think I’m going to go out on a limb and call a poor mans miniature Afellay on this one. Hope I’m wrong.

If Verlinden had played the whole game and turned in a performance like Ince did last night, we'd quite rightly be wondering what the fuss is about. As it is, he at least looks he wants to attack and run with the ball. He may or may not make it, but at the moment he deserves more game time looking at both of our first choice wingers.
