Some teams only want champions league football, everything else, including international football is a hindrance. The sooner these teams depart to form their own European franchised league... Not necessarily. Liverpool's Holy Grail is the Premier League. As for International football judging by the whining on this message board after Butland got injured and at every international break when there are no domestic fixtures there are some pretty mediocre teams who find it a hindrance. It is but they've won that already. Not even they will fuck this up. Now if he's going for the invincibles thing then I have some sympathy because tbh I'd go for that over the Champions League. It's way more of an achievement.

Got absolutely no problem with him using his youth players, none at all. Every club does it and Klopp's job will always hinge on what he does in the League and Champions League rather than the FA Cup. I do object to him saying he won't manage the side, that's the only thing I would construe as disrespectful. But this is also the fault of the Premier League and this sort of but not quite Winter Break they're deciding to have. The replay falls right in the middle of it, the FA and Premier League need to actually converse with each other about it. Indeed, the youth team manager should take charge of the team but it would be respectful to take 24 hours from his break for Klopp to show his support I have little sympathy with big clubs wanting no replays, considering withdrawing from the League cup etc because of fixture congestion I can see their next suggestion will be extra time and or penalties deciding the one fixture Surely the cup should still be about the likes of Shrewsbury getting a draw to then have a replay at one of the big clubs For this situation, when there are likely to be several Premiership clubs needing a replay, maybe the dates for the next round could accommodate this. Or all clubs have a winter break with no matches including replays to take place

His first team squad were promised a winter break - and given all they have achieved so far he believes they deserve one so they're going to get it. I think he also believes he can put out an academy squad that can win - which if they do it will be great for their confidence and if they don't it will be a learning experience. I know it's not fashionable in Stoke but I actually like Klopp and am with him on this one.

I can't for the life of me see what Klopp has said wrong here. There's a winter break and clubs have been told not to play lucrative friendlies but to give players a proper break. So Liverpool have given their players a holiday to spend time with their families etc. How would we feel if our employers suddenly cancelled an agreed holiday and told us to come to work? Klopp is leaving the management of the youngsters to the man who normally manages them (including in that League Cup game) thus showing him respect. As I understand it, he has said that he will not be managing the team, not that he won't watch them. He's not the only manager to complain about the latest incompetence from football authorities who are the ones we should be criticising here. I’ve interpreted his response as he won’t attend

There is fundamentally something wrong with the modern footballer
Better nutrition
Better training
Better equipment
Better playing surfaces
Yet in the seventies early eighties teams regularly played forty odd games using around fourteen players Without making a drama out of it

Here's a radical idea to solve fixture congestion. How about fucking the "champions" league off and replacing it with a straight knockout tournament for the champions of each country and call it the European cup or something?

Hmm, barely a break. They should be forced to play their best team, it's their own fault for fielding a weakened side first time around, The proposed break is pretty much in line with Italy's and Spain's. Germany's is the only one that goes to 3 weeks. The only difference is football will be played on both weekends, just half the sides each time rather than the whole league stopping. Liverpool would have a full two weeks off which is pretty sizeable. I think team's should be at liberty to play whoever they want whenever they want, squad rules permitting. Klopp like all managers is being judged on criteria, and I doubt those criteria include our domestic cups. My only issue is that he's not going to manage the game, which is nonsense. Oddly I don't think teams shouldnt be able to do this and it's one of the problems with modern football. Teams can just cherry pick what competition they like and fuck the rest of it. In the end teams will just prioritise the Prem and the Champs league and the cups will be just the reserves with some cleaner as manager right up to the final. If we like our traditional competitions rubbished in such a way, great carry on. I'm very uneasy about it.

In my opinion, Klopp has held the oldest cup competition in the world in complete contempt this season. I was hoping that Everton would put them out last round, but sadly they are so poor they couldn't finish Klopp's kids off. He clearly thinks it's not worth the effort, doesn't want to take part and has little respect for the FA Cup. I think it's very poor if he's not at the replay. They're going to stroll the league this season. Not even Liverpool can blow it from here. It's not like he desperately needs to save his players - they've got a big first team squad. Bob Paisley's Liverpool used to aim to win the double and succeed in Europe. It's a slur on a great football club. It's the thin end of the wedge. How long before the top 6 pull out of the FA Cup altogether - probably citing European priorities as the excuse. Agreed ... he's acting like a jumped up primadonna. There is absolutely no reason why the first team can't fly out to Ibiza for their scheduled 10 day break on the Sunday and then he and the first team players who need games anyway, your Lallana's and Origi's etc. can meet up with them on the Wednesday morning. It's totally practical and makes complete sense. He's simply thrown his toys out of the pram at the way the League and the FA are incapable of liaising with each other (and to be fair he HAS got a point) but he could do it with a bit more grace. When Liverpool won the FA Cup in 1965 it was absolutely massive for the club and for the successes that came over the next 20 years. He probably needs to calm down and have a little rethink on this one ... it's not a good look.

Worst case scenario, they play eight games in the FA Cup. Only two more than in the bloated Champions League group stage. I don't think I've ever heard him bleating about those games. The FA are stupid though, having games during this winter break. Then they're hardly renowned for good decisions.

He manages one team ... Liverpool. Agreed. Not Liverpool reserves. What on earth are you on about? He's done a post match interview where he's obviously disappointed and probably just a little bit embarrassed that there's actually going to even HAVE to be a replay and he's made an ill thought through decision. As I've already said, he's right to be pissed off with the inability of the FA and the Premier league to liaise with each other adequately but it was easily rectified, as I said earlier, we're talking about 72 hours. He's gone too far with this. Carragher is spot on: www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jamie-carragher-explains-how-jurgen-21371714

Like it or lump it Herr Klopp can field whatever team he sees fit. He possibly feels that as the entire first team squad are having a mid-season break he might as well have one as well. He’d probably booked it in advance anyway and I’m sure he’d be loathe to lose his deposit, which could be as much as a few hundred quid. (winky thing!) In any case it may well lead to a far more entertaining and far closer game than had the ‘big’ players been selected. The Shrewsbury player’s themselves won’t be a bit bothered as they’ll still be able to tell their grandkids they played at the home of the reigning European and World champions whatever the outcome of the match. What they need to do however is be fair to Shrewsbury and charge a decent ticket price so, although the attendance will probably be reduced, they get a good financial payout.

When klopp first came over and he was losing games it was tv gold. Storming off from interviews after games etc.
Hes had it good for 2 years. When he couldn't beat Shrewsbury live on the bbc his bottom lip went and said I'm not going.
Oh I miss klopp and his tantrums. Can't wait until they return

The FA Cup should mean a bit more to Liverpool than this. Dead right Joe and Paul Spencer. Klopp is the manager of Liverpool FC. They enter The Premier League, FA Cup, the Caraboo or however they've re-branded The League Cup. Their league position means they qualify for European competition. They are obliged by the spirit of the game (as are all clubs - not just having a go at Liverpool) to field a strong team. Championship, League 1 and League 2 clubs make the now normal 9 changes for cup fixtures. What a sad state of affairs. That's one issue. The other is his disrespect for this famous cup competition. There is no valid reason why the manager of Liverpool Football Club should not be at a first team fixture in the 4th round of the FA Cup. End of debate. If we let these things slide, we will lose the FA Cup.

He should let those players not responsible for drawing with Shrewsbury go on holiday, and he - along with the players who played that day - should forego their holiday and represent their club in the replay.
He would still be resting the majority of his A team. Why the fuck he can’t be at the replay is baffling.
