Our national sport is dying in front of our very eyes. Just caught some of Cardiff v Swansea and there are empty seats all over, people are losing interest in the game for many reasons. 1. Overpaid players 2. Sky 3. The Premier league 4. Over pricing ( Derby away) 5. Lack of entertainment 6. The emergence of other sport ( cricket) 7. Var
I am sure there are many more reasons, but for sure something needs to change.

Too much coverage is the problem I think. You can pretty much watch football 24/7 on television. It has become boring a sterile.
Back when I were a lad you either went live or watched in on star soccer on a sundee afternoon, and only then if you have a tanner for the rental slot on the back of the tele.

Swansea are a small club in terms of fan base, poor turn out from them for a local derby, but they don’t travel well, probably due to geographical location.

Add to that the time wasting
I’ve said it before, players are stewards of a game that will exist after they retire, stewards of a game that has given them good money and a comfortable, healthy lifestyle.
Why then, a parts from the pressure to win at all costs, do they act the way they do?
If I pay £30 to watch a game, I can take us being shit, I can accept a mistake, but I ain’t going to watch a player take 90 seconds over a throw in, or pretend he’s hurt his head to break up the play.

A new one has crept in this season.......rule for taking a goal-kick was changed to taking it from whichever side the keeper chose, the idea being that it would speed up play. Instead keepers use it to waste time by slowly strolling over to the opposite side to take it. Really infuriating. Also the new directive for substituted players to leave the pitch at the nearest point has taken a new twist where players will start to stroll off toward the dug out then suddenly realise their "mistake" and do a u-turn and jog back to where they came from and then stroll off at the nearest point. The only answer is time keeping as in rugby league and clock stops when ball is out of play.

I can't see football dying, the wealthy backers have invested too much too allow it to happen but there are issues, supporters are becoming disillusioned and far more critical. In my view FFP has been a major factor in the current situation which is as misleading a title as any politician could come up with, has nothing to do with fair play but maintains the status quo allowing the Manchester clubs for example to absorb ever increasing amounts of money and no one able to challenge them. I also think the chase for TV cash is now proving counterproductive, the amount of games televised and streamed relegates watching it to the norm rather than an interest. They have also taken supporters for granted, the amount of time wasting, play acting conning the referee etc is a source of annoyance but then you get has been pundits trying to justify it based on their superior knowledge of footballing matters. Football is a business and any business that ignores its customers feedback and continues to deliver what they tell you they don't want will eventually lose them. I think it is in a transition stage, there are a lot of competing demands, I do wonder how much money the women's game will divert in the future and the testing of the water by Amazon is interesting. The premier league in particular have had a golden financial period but most of the avalanche of cash has ended up in players and agents pockets and they have very high salary to turnover ratios suggesting that many will be in great difficulty if there is the slightest reduction in the money supply from said companies. In summary there are structural issues within football but even the current state of play is nowhere near enough to make me personally watch cricket, tennis or golf.

Unfortunately football is being over saturated on tv and every natural exciting element of it sterilised each season. The introduction of var will be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of fans like myself who know believe that football is being totally controlled by external factors not 11 v 11 and 3 officials.

Over-saturation. The big match doesn't feel like such an event these days, especially as you can get instant alerts and highlights by the touch of a screen. And VAR needs reigning in as it's killing the spontaneity. Delayed mentals? Give over.

The siting of the new grounds doesn't help, we were walking up yesterday and said the whole match day experience is a bit of a chore, cold stadium with nothing around it in way of creating a fan day experience. Went to Germany for the friendlies previously and around the stadiums there is plenty for fans to enjoy, fanzines, bars etc. Most grounds in this country have a pub within walking distance if you are lucky. We were reminiscing about match day at the Vic, town would be buzzing, walk down to the Victoria pub or the social club, watching the plod escort the away fans from the station, coming out of Victoria or club and straight in the ground, the whole area buzzing. Now just coaches and buses everywhere and lots of traffic.

It’s dying for the people who traditionally watched football.
English football is now interested in global audience, the local community are of no real interest to the clubs and the people who run the game. This is having a knock effect at places like Cardiff and Swansea where they have suddenly dropped from global interest of the Premiership to the comparative anonymity of the Championship.

Actually this newly emerging sport that they have called "cricket" is going the same way.
I can distinctly remember my father (in the 1960s) asking me if I wanted to go to the test match at Lords the next day. New Zealand were the opposition. Of course I did want to go. We went to the train station (Taunton) and two "day returns" to Paddington did it (no booking at all). Tube to St Johns Wood. Cash turnstile into Lords.
Things are just so much more expensive and complicated now.
I blame Brexit.

I can't remember the last good premier league game that I watched. I usually flick over during most now for about the last 3 years.
The last good game that I can remember was the chelsea Tottenham game when leicester won the title. Tackles tackles and more tackles. High tempo great game
The liverpool barca game last season was the best non prem game. Other than that it's generally a pile of shit.
