and yet still better than Edwards. What in Smith's display yesterday was any different to Edward's display against Reading that thick as mince Stoke fans booed him for? Stoke fans hate young players and that's a fact He blocked a couple of crosses, stopping them from going into danger zone, he passed it forward occassionally (very occasionally it has to be said) and he won 2 headers. We dont have a full back worthy of the name on either side. That clucas is about the best says it all really.

He should be on the pitch instead of that Huddersfield cretin. We needed to tighten up and I think Smith has marginally made us better defensively. Tom Edwards has been a disaster this season. Defensively poor, somehow got slower and even his crossing has been tripe. Plus he snapped back at the manager in the game where he was hooked at half time. In the make do and mend era we are currently in that is a recipe for disaster for him. We’re an absolute shower of shit at the back.

Stoke fans hate young players and that's a fact So why do most of us want Verlinden and Campbell starting?? Oh they want them starting, right up until they actually start. Campbell was slated for months on here for being too limited and not a rounded striker by age 19, Edwards getting slaughtered on this very thread... Sorry but you just cannot expect these players to not have flaws, they need to learn and people on here need to accept making mistakes will be a part of that.

Whose fault is it that he isn't in the team? I’m not on about Edwards specifically Ok fair enough. But in this instance he's been called on his performances. Watching him inthe fa youth cup at 17 he looked quicker and stronger. He's gone backwards from there but why should he care? He has a big contract and he looks fat and slow. He had a few decent games at the end of this season, he's come back this season not even fit enough to track a runner behind him on a simple give and go, not defending his back post. He looks like a sunday league player.

That sums up Smith's shitty display yesterday to a tee. Must be watching different games then. Don't get me wrong, Smith isn't great but we didnt concede as a result of him nor was he launching the ball into row Z as an attempted cross. Our most accurate crosser yesterday and more key passes than Powell but shhh

If he buckles down and works hard he has a good manager here who will reward that. I really hope he's working hard and these rumours posted on here aren't true. After that Norwich performance we all thought he was arriving and would be a crucial player this season. Let's hope he really wants it.

Our most accurate crosser yesterday and more key passes than Powell but shhh Yeh I don't think he's that bad, as the games go by he is at least reliable. Yesterday the main issue was the fact that none of the others in that back 4 can step out with the balk, but neither did they hit it long quickly enough. Millwall got set and organised too easily before the ball got to the final third.

He's proven in this league, yes he's far from perfect but the indisputable truth is that he's better than Edwards, that's why he's playing.

Stoke fans hate young players and that's a fact 2nd half, we broke reasonably quickly and Campbell made a run where a simple ball over the top would have put him clean through. Smith gave Campbell a bollocking for not coming short cause all he (Smith) wanted to do was play a short ball into feet.

The Tom Edwards who was playing in the premier league 2 years ago is a far distant memory unfortunately.
It happens with young players all the time, nothing ventured nothing gained.
