I agree with Paul, Stoke is in the Midlands (north west midlands), and Crewe is in the north. BBC North West sports results never mention Stoke (or Vale) as a northern or north west team, but Crewe is mentioned. In the East Midlands Mansfield is classed as Midlands whereas Chesterfield (12 miles away) is considered in the north. Just to muddy things further, Crewe is covered by BBC North West (TV), but Radio-wise it comes under BBC Stoke (classed as BBC in the Midlands). And once upon a time in the 90's Stoke and Vale games and results were briefly included on Granada TV. Biddulph (or at least the part where I lived), received BBC NW and Granada. We couldn't get Midlands TV if we tried.

Because SOT is an unusual city in shape (its approx 12 miles in length).I think people who live in Kisdgrove ,Talke will think differently than people from Meir etc. North in England-possibly North in UK-No Not sure, I'm from Meir and I'd be more inclined to say North than Midlands. As said though, I think we're the arse end of nowhere and neither region particularly wants us. I feel more culturally similar to Manchester and Liverpool than I do to Birmingham and Coventry though, that's how I judge it.

Never mind Stoke look at those maps!!! Iām not having that Oxfordshire is the Midlands. What you do about Lincolnshire looks more complicated than the Schleswig-Holstein question.

What do Kidsgrove and Talke have to do with Stoke-on-Trent? How do you get an elephant to talk....put it on the Kidsgrove bus I know I know The old ones are the best. I once heard someone ask a Conductor(remember them) if this Bus was going to Talke and was told "Maybe" and "Maybe if you wait long enough Duck it'll do a song and dance for you".

At one time I lived in Stafford and worked in Stoke. Stafford was the furthest place South that you could buy a Manchester printed Newspaper, as opposed to a London one. And Stafford was the furthest place North that you could buy Dublin bottled Guiness. So there was a dividing line there somewhere. I do believe that Stoke are certainly regarded as a Midland club, especially with regard to the unofficial "Midlands Championship".

It is complicated,as we know we have a reasonable sized asian and black community in the city and they seem to associate themselves more with Birmingham than the north.I personally agree with you we sound more midlands than northern when we speak but culturally Im definitely more northern. Its cooler
