Verlinden was and is a good player on the pitch and the winger situation this season has been a fucking joke. I wanted him to stay and to succeed. Not sure why he was let go. Weirdly he's only played 13 minutes for Fortuna Sittard since joining them, in 7 games. He might have taken a knock in confidence but it's hardly earth shattering so far at least. Still he was here and we've signed 3 wingers, all 3 have barely played, 1 looks poor on limited viewing, 1 doesn't look like a winger and 1 is injured. It's a curious affair to say the least.

And yet it's probably just MoN's footballing fetish, in the same way that VT's was Centre Backs.

Clarke is quality and will be a consistent premiership player. We will have to wait and see who has the better career with Verlinden. I wanted Verlinden to become a world beater whilst with Stoke as that's the vibe the club chose to send out to its fans whilst he came up through the ranks. Then we gave him away. Ngoy similar but maybe not so much hype. Anyway Clarke will have a great career, he is a proper winger and that's always the way I want Stoke to play..'with winger's' and so I hope we sign him. He needs a while to settle in and find his confidence.

verlinden was a good player in people's head not on the pitch. Clarke hasn't improved us at all when played to date , the odd glimpse I have to be brutally honest and whilst I have no idea if Verlinden was any good or not, I'm struggling to believe he could have offered us any less than Clarke and Matondo. We've seen it so many times. A player who isn't playing is built up to be something they're not. Not seen many go on and prove us wrong

I think he’s a terrific footballer but he doesn’t look like a winger to me.

Looks completely lost out there and the way he gets knocked off the ball is a joke at this level.

The stuff I've been impressed with has all been centrally. I think with his back towards goal he's been good, he's good on the half turn and running into space centrally, good passing and movement. Out wide he's not really beaten a man and he's barely crossed it and when he has they haven't been very good.

Does he really want to be here not sure he's very committed to our cause, is he better than Verlinden at the moment I can't see he is an upgrade at all, he's a better footballer than Duracell Brown and Matondo which let's be honest is not difficult.

Feel like Clarke has been better than some here are suggesting. He hasn't started the last few games for whatever reason, but he definitely has beaten his man a few times already, would've had an assist if Fletcher had stayed onside, and won us a penalty which is basically an assist in itself.

I think Clarke has the potential to be a very good player, just not for us. He doesn’t suit our style of play at all and is much more suited to a free flowing side.

Clarke deserves another start, apart from Powell he is the best player we have with the ball at his feet. Is Matondo still injured ? Not heard anything about him for a while.

He tends to move backwards or sideways when a defender closes down on him, maybe its a bit of lack of confidence, or he just needs more playing time. He's not played much football in the last 12 months at all.

I reckon he needs to start on Saturday against Wycombe. They are a struggling side and we should be expected to get at them from the off. A game we should have a lot of possession and hopefully score 2 or 3 goals. It could give him a kick start to his confidence and hopefully more time on the pitch.

We have form for signing players for a fortune and then loaning them out whilst still playing most of their wages. It's about time we became the benefactors rather than the mugs.

There is a player in there, he needs a kick up the arse. He needs pointing in the right direction and told to be more direct, shoot more often, put more crosses in. He's got everything but no end product at the moment

I see Clarke more as a player best suited to the rigth or left in a front three, not as a genuine winger.
In time with experience i think he has the ability to develop into a very good number 10 behind the main striker where he will be able to dictate attacking play.
He is not a player who needs to be tied down to one part of the pitch.
Very much a Jack Grealish type, and no one think i am trying to say he is as good as Grealish just a similar type of player that has good ability and good feet with a bit of pace.

I think that he is a great impact sub, and has a lot of potential. Very few youngsters have the full package. From what O’Neill keeps stating in his press releases, it sounds as if he’ll be hear on loan again next year.

He could get quite a lot of action in that Mickey Mouse European competition they're in as well as the League Cup, so maybe not the worst move.
Probably still best for him to get a loan somewhere, but can see his thinking.
