No mention of this on the official site...no surprise there.... Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Championship outfit Stoke City have pulled off a huge transfer coup after agreeing terms with Nigeria U17 invitee, Iffy Udanoh. Several Premier League clubs not limited to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal had explored the possibility of signing the 6-feet-4-inches tall central defender, who has been likened to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk. Udanoh was one of the teenagers earmarked to sign a scholarship deal with Aston Villa but the stumbling block is that other clubs, including Lyon in France, were battling for his services. After leaving Aston Villa, he went to Tottenham Hotspur to undergo trials and did really well doing his time with the North London club. Stoke City snatched Udanoh from under the noses of Spurs, offering him a contract after just one trial game. Udanoh and his minders believe the Potters are the best club for him in terms of pathway to first-team football that he might not get elsewhere. His scholarship deal with Stoke City will come into effect on July 1, 2020. Ifeanyi Emmanuel

If we've offered a contract after just one match, he must have something about him to warrant a quick offer like that.
Can only be a good thing if he's being likened to Van Dijk

It recalls other "ones for the future".......Dima Phillips, Jamie Ness, Florent Cuvelier, Dion Teixeira to name a few that didn’t make it.

To be honest we have recruited well in the youth teams for some time. The issue is the route to first team football. We've not had for a long time in my opinion a joined up approach to getting players in the first team. Some of that is clearly the players themselves but some of it has been down to getting in managers who've been more keen to go with senior pros than develop younger players. I suspect a lack of strategy and no Director of Football has caused this situation to occur.

Dont hold out much hope for this Guy's future with Stoke, going on previous examples. We plucked Etebo from African football and he actually is/was a good player, but as soon as he gets into the first team he subsequently gets dropped and is apparently on his way out of the club as we can't afford his wages.
What a great picture that presents for any new lad.

Hughes loved Imbula after that one pre season friendly.
I guess it's different for an under 18 as apposed to Imbula who was 24 years old. You can take a gamble like that on a youth prospect, not a bloody £18 Million senior player who played 1 match against us!

Looking into this, didn't he sign for Villa in the Summer on a two year contract?

Good point, in fact every player on that list was a pro footballer as of 2019 apart from Johnny Tex, who suffered the notoriously career-inhibiting inconvenience of dying

And tbh barring Flo, none of them have a relevance to this lad. Phillips, Tex and Ness all came to us in their 20s.

Stop press, sometimes promising young footballers don't make it Tbh it was a bit tongue in cheek but, until recently, our ones for the future have rarely if ever been a success at Stoke regardless of whether they have made it at a lower level. Probably due to successive managers not being interested in our academy players.
