Hall and Oates are one band I’ve never seen live and would bloody love to. Remember sitting up late one Sat night when they showed them live at a theatre in Harlem on ITV and was amazing. Before we had a video recorder lol a bloody fantastic gig

Before we had a video recorder lol a bloody fantastic gig In the meanwhile, here's a great video of Mr. Hall jamming with The O'Jays (70's Bangers) to get you started (do a search on "Daryl's House" for others). He's got an excellent band to back him. I love finding gems like this on youtube.

Following on from Lord's Simple Minds post, this masterpiece still sounds as good as it did back then.... They were a killer live band, my older brother used to go watch them at Hammersmith on the New Gold Deeam and Sparkle tours before they went to arenas. A very happy memory , we went to see them at Milton Keynes Bowl in June 86 just after O levels finished (with the delightful Cassie from Sutton, but I’ll say no more on that ) on a blazing hot summer day, a brilliant lineup of Waterboys, The Bangles and the Cult topped off by SM. We were all together when a Waterfront started and the place started bouncing and all of a sudden you’re 50feet or more away from your mates lol. To show the kind of stuff I was also into, we were back at teh Bowl a week or two later for Marillion, and that summer also saw Queen 3 times (Wembley with Quo, The Alarm and InXs, Cologne with Marillion and Level 42, and Kenbworth with Quo and Big Country) as well as The Damneds ridiculously good 10th anniversary shows in a meltingly hot tent in Finsbury Park. That was a hell of a summer well O level results not permitting lol I did pass the retakes though I have tickets for Simple Minds in April, can't wait!

Just listened to this. Different class. The harmonies! Lush harmonies and a cracking bloody song! ! Absolutely lush mate. Love how it keeps going up and up and up. And just when you think it can't soar any higher, it goes up a little bit more. Fucking brilliant Private Eyes also THE best song to feature hand clapping ever...

Fucking brilliant Private Eyes also THE best song to feature hand clapping ever... I think Radio Gaga might disagree with you on that handclap point but Private Eyes is a killer tune! Well reminded actually cos I've got the album PE in a box upstairs some where. And another shout, and I guess due respect to Baker Street here, but Maneater and THAT sax solo with the echo on it is bloody sublime . Hall and Oates have a legacy and a half

Sorry to join in on your conversation guys.
I liked Hall and Oates back in the day but I always thought they seemed to be one of those bands that at the time it wasn't cool to like. As you've both said they made some cracking songs and their harmonies and vocal ranges were superb.

Funnily enough I don't LOVE radio Gaga but was lucky enough to see Queen play it 5 times and in arenas and stadiums it was hand clapping par excellence! Until of course We Will Rock You at the end kicked in lol.

They weren't cool at all rrally were they Dee, but I never really gave a damn what was , I would have got thePrivate Eyes album similar time to buying Iron Maiden Motorhead the Damned the Stranglers the Jam and all frankly juat music I like. I guess Hall and Oates is a guilty pleasure of sorts cos they were never one I rwally owned up to! Apologies for crap spelling tonight, I've hit the bottle a bit since getting home from the game !

Open forum pal, get involved My understanding is that they were huge in the US but not so much here. Happy to be corrected on that, I'm no expert. I just know I've got a lot of time for em!

Well here's a couple of classics. One of my all time favourite albums is a secret wish by propaganda. Every track is superb.
