Is fuck the ira racist? I’m not condoning anything but every team sings it at him don’t they? No, not even close. Last time I checked the IRA weren't a race or a religion but dont tell the precious brigade on here that, they love rallying against common sense. At a push you could say it's unkind to Catholicism and/or the pope, It's only really the former of those that apply here. Again not racist. It's been done to death on here over JM sharing quotes from XYZ so I won't get into it.

Are people actually implying that singing "Fuck the IRA" is racist/sectarian? It's not racist. It is sectarian. The usual defence is that it's an anti terrorist song and therefore ok - but that's just using pedantry to mask the underlying bigotry. It's an anti Irish Catholic song designed to provoke. Everybody knows that - those defending it are just being dishonest about what's going on. Also - what is the justification of singing this song in a game between Huddersfield and Stoke? It's a bit sick if sung at a Rangers v Celtic game but at least there is a ridiculous age old sectarian identification to draw on. At what point did Stoke or Huddersfield become exclusively British/Northern Irish Protestant? Let's face it for the most part it's a bunch of know nothing teenagers trying to sound hard being egged on by a bunch of sad ass middle aged men who should know better. There's no place for that song at a football match - makes me sick to the stomach every time I hear it. Especially when sung by Stoke fans. 100% agree with your sentiments but just dont know how the league can charge a club based on a song of "fuck a terrorist group". Never heard the line about the pope but I don't think those singing it have the capacity to remember a second line.

I don’t sing the song, so I might be wrong but isn’t one of the lyrics “f*ck the pope”? Fuck the Pope and the IRA Fuck Port Vale and the IRA Fuck Gerry Adams and the IRA Various guises. Still sung by Stoke fans. Bit out-dated and has fuck to do with football. Often sung by those born after the Good Friday Agreement Pilled up pre-pubescent fuckin idiots you mean....

Heard the pope line sang but no very often and your spot on with the second line, possibly after the first line they turn to there mates with a blank look and wonder why they are singing it.

Nobody has said what was being sung, you have all assumed and started an argument not knowing what was said
He was getting a tirade of abuse down by the corner flag from Huddersfield fans, am presuming it not very good natured, and if its turned anti Catholic/Irish then the ref has every right to report it
Even before JM signed I've hated that song, and the stupid flute song - they are Rangers songs, why the fuck they are sang at Stoke is beyond me

Is fuck the ira racist? I’m not condoning anything but every team sings it at him don’t they? All he has ever done is to ask people to educate themselves as to why he has made his choice not to wear the poppy. The Northern Ireland conflict is as complicated as it gets, but there are 2 sides to every story and it is a very chequered but also fascinating history. It is quite possible given his upbringing and location/religion that anybody in his position would make the same choice There are some decent explanations and a starter for 10 on the thread below; www.quora.com/What-was-the-conflict-between-England-and-Ireland-about-How-was-it-solved

If I sing fuck the taliban/ fuck the isis is that racist? No That has no place at a football stadium either and if it is chanted in the direction of a player or supporter then that would be racist/discriminatory chanting which has no pla e in society or football.

See above Urban Myth - its a tenuous link to a small group of managers not the company itself, doing what they wanted with their salaries to some NORAID charity in the early 80s
Its safe to continue eating Big Macs
