Dave (Fenton) - Hi Martin, will we be buying some players this January?
Martin - Hi Dave, there's a possibility that some might be leaving and some joining.
Dave (Fenton) - Thanks Martin.

I understand we might be looking to sell Etebo & Ndiaye but to not use them in the team before selling is completely crazy.
There is some seriously strange behaviour going on down the ground these days.

Can someone ask why we are so quick getting etebo & ndiaye out on loan at the beginning of january without leaving it late if needed to sell them at 'over inflated' january prices before loaning them out on deadline day if nothing materialises

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-qa-live-celtic-rangers-3732301Outside of getting another forward, would you agree that adding some full-backs with greater crossing and overlapping quality could help? (All Stoked Up)
Tom Edwards is that full back, potentially at least, and there is more than enough time for him to come good at right back. As for left back, you get the feeling the manager is prepared to go with BMI if needs be for the rest of the season, particularly if he is taking `liberties’ elsewhere with attacking players like Nick Powell.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-qa-live-celtic-rangers-3732301Any idea why we've not really being linked with any left-backs - even if it would have to be a loan? BMI is holding the fort, but surely it's the overwhelming priority? (Steve, Stoke)The left back issue is a popular one Steve. As already said, can see BMI being persevered with for the rest of this season if needs be and, taking a longer-term view, that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Unless O’Neill can sign a left back he really wants now, you’d surely rather wait until there are more to pick from in the summer when, fingers crossed, he can also sell Stoke City better because of Championship safety?

What price would Stoke demand for Joe Allen this month? (Paul, Blythe Bridge) Personally Paul, it would be at least £25m-£30m.
But times are hard and Stoke need ready cash, so the £8m figure being floated about isn’t too wide of the mark at this present time.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/live-stoke-city-transfer-news-3732301Most players on Saturday tried their best, but we just didn’t have enough quality or know how in their box to beat an average side. Are we stuck with what we have or can we bring a quality striker in before February, who would want to join a team 4th from bottom of the championship on loan? (Tony, Derby)All the noises coming out of the club, whoever you speak to, are playing down expectations on any major influx of new faces, or any great expenditure on those who do come. Either the club is playing a clever game, to make the window look better than it is in the final outcome and keeping prices for signings down, or Stoke really are hamstrung by Financial Fair Play and those hefty contracts and fees from the past. As for being fourth bottom, that is a turn off for any half-decent player who’s not desperate to move, so maybe it is better to keep the powder dry until the summer unless the manager can unearth a Beattie and/or an Etherington. Those were the days.

Is there anywhere where you think we're looking to bring in a starter? McClean/Verlinden on the left, Campbell/Ince on the right and Vokes centrally all set a reasonably high bar for a loanee to clear. Would any decent loan player come in to sit on the bench? (Mark, Stoke)
O’Neill would love another strike option, he is clearly worried about what’s currently available, but his hands could be tied if they can’t offload Hogan.
It would really be interesting if he presented the club with someone long term for something like £4/£5m.
Would they back him and take it out of the summer budget, or would FFP even force their hands on that kind of deal?
Either way, you don’t get the feeling this is a manager who’d chuck his toys out of the pram if he didn’t get what he wanted. Not just yet anyhow.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/live-stoke-city-transfer-news-3732301Is it your understanding due to the FFP everyone is up for sale and all offers will he reviewed seriously? (James, Crewe)
Yes, in theory James nobody is exempt in the current circumstances. That’s nearly always the case anyway, but particularly so with FFP looming large. If the information coming out of the club is correct, and we have no reason to doubt it, the threat of a points deduction somewhere down the line is one being taken very, very seriously.

Maybe the only chance of meaningful activity is a midfielder if one of Woods or Allen goes? Although I'd argue we need another body there anyway with only the ineffective Woods and Cousins as the extra bodies there now - and no-one who could replicate Powell's role there either. (Dave, Newcastle)
Yes, you may yet be proved right Dave.
O’Neill clearly likes Allen and Clucas, but after that you get the impression he would barely notice the others were even missing if they were sold.
But what price would you get for either right now?
As for Powell, Stoke have to make him work because you don’t see anyone coming in to take over his wages, especially after the season he’s had so far, and the club cannot afford yet another well-paid flop.
He’s done well lately, but that is only a start and there’s plenty still to be convinced he can maintain that.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/live-stoke-city-transfer-news-3732301Do you think Stoke would be prepared to let Gregory go for a low sum if we could move on from his no doubt hefty Bosman salary - for a player O'Neill doesn't seem a massive fan of, given his age? (Tom, Stoke)O’Neil has come to the conclusion that he can’t rely on Gregory for the number of goals needed, certainly not in this present set up, but that doesn’t mean he’s desperate to get rid. If Cardiff are interested, it all depends on the colour of their money. Right colour and Stoke would have to consider, providing some kind of replacement was in the pipeline. Perhaps that Billy Sharpe suggestion from earlier because he’s a guy who knows, or knew, where the back of the net was in the Championship? Having seen Etebo and Ndiaye leave and interest in Campbell, is it fair to say that O'Neill is confident he has enough in his squad to pull clear of drop zone? (Jim, Hanley)He keeps saying that Jim, but then he’d have to, wouldn’t he? There’s no doubt he was prepared to forego Etebo and Ndiaye because their hearts were no longer in it, but losing Campbell right now would be a huge blow to him because he seems to genuinely rate him and has unquestionably struck up a better rapport with him than either of his two predecessors.

Can someone ask why we are so quick getting etebo & ndiaye out on loan at the beginning of january without leaving it late if needed to sell them at 'over inflated' january prices before loaning them out on deadline day if nothing materialises Hindsight is wonderful! If left late still might not find a buyer at ANY price (over-inflated or under-inflated) and similarly we might not get any loan offers on deadline day as clubs may have made their all loans before then. A loan IN the club is worth two not available. If we were left with unsold/unloaned players on deadline day BECAUSE we were playing 'who blinks first' with buyers, there would be an almighty row on here. So you make a judgement as to whether or not to accept offers whne they arise - you could be right but you could be equally wrong.
