The Black's Head was on North Street, Stoke. Some proper un p.c. pubs back then - The Black Boy was on Cobridge Road ! Didn't a syndicate from the Black's Head have a huge Pools win? Dunno mate.

Didn't a syndicate from the Black's Head have a huge Pools win? Dunno mate. Well I think that they did. It hit the national papers. Apparently one syndicate member was behind with his payment, on the week that they won. Whether they divied him in with the pay out I can't remember. I have a feeling that they did.
Talking of North Street, there was the old Catholic Club in that vicinity as I remember. I played there a few times.

Yeah the Catholic Club was a few hundred yards away. I went to St Thomas’s Primary.

Halfway House, Anchor Rd, Longton - RIP Some very fond memories come flooding back when I think of the nights I've had in there. Ken kept a stonking pint of Pedigree in them days.. not having a cellar at The Gardeners meant it was never quite as good during the summer months. I thought for one horrible moment you were mourning the Halfway House on Silverdale Road

The restaurant I miss the most is the Bosted Onion at Halmerend. Fantastic hosting by Paul Breuer haven't bumped into him for a few years now top bloke. I think he used to have a health food shop on the precinct at Newcastle on the right heading towards Hartshill. Always interesting he used to come around beforehand with his latest wine selections and by request I used to take a portion of his delicious home made chicken liver pate back with me. After the food was done he'd come out of the kitchen and socialise with the customers

I only know Stoke upon Trent as not from round here but further back was the Blacks Head and the Trent Vale. The latter was like someone's empty living room! The Black's Head was on North Street, Stoke. Some proper un p.c. pubs back then - The Black Boy was on Cobridge Road ! Kevin Campbell used to drink in there.

Also the rose near longton fire station. Proper battered old pub but had decent ale.
Used to be a good session walking from longton to normacot.
Start at the union, then the Albion, royal oak, gamekeeper, tam oshanter (only pub left), rose, normacot hotel and the station.
Some great days and sadly missed.

Being a Meir lad I could weep! All gone, Kings Arms Waggon and Horses Station Hotel The Thorley Tiger Moth Waterhead Weston Inn/ Lautrecs Used them all over the years. I visited the Meir Sports and Social (think it was called that) a few times with my Dad, also the Thorley when Alec Ormston (again I think!) had it. A mate had the Saracens Head for a while, had some decent lock ins now and then in there.

Think they actually won it twice. Think the bloke who organised it all was called Magnus Pike, probably because he threw his arms around. It was the thing that started the decline, they bought the Victoria on Victoria Road Fenton (now housing). The blacks head just fizzled out as being a millionaire isn't in keeping with making a few punters happy. Had some many happy sessions in the blacks head and still some of the best cask beer in town. Just around the corner was the Cliffe Vale, which was bulldozed. The lot that did it was a bunch of amateurs as the 'dozer fell into the cellar. I mean which idiot doesn't realise most pubs have cellars FFS. Also lost in Stoke Town: White Swan (now paint shop and an office) Kings Head (flats) Phoenix (dentist) Star (house) Denbigh Castle (Demolished) Victoria (Flats) Greenhoffs (closed) And the infamous Harry's bar. (permanently shut, probably pending demolition). Nearer the station, Yellow (the scream) Demolished. Fawn And Firkin Demolished. There are others, but that's recent memory.

I can remember doing a few King Street Fenton crawls in the past. I think Foley Arms, Miners Arms, Duke of Wellington, Royal Oak and Newtown have all gone now?

One place I remember is the Steam Plough on the corner of Victoria Street and Freehold Street in Newcastle. It was basically just the downstairs of a normal terraced house, and the smallest pub I ever saw (from the outside).

Wasn't Harry's Bar that place in the square ?
I went in one Thursday and they had a disco on...one of those old fashioned fellas who does £99 weddings and plays Black Lace and shite. Was a gal about 18 trying to pull every fella, thing was she had a kid in a pram with her. Politely declined her offer of 'buy us a drink mate'
There was a place in Scholar Green where you went into what looked like a living room and bought a jug of beer from an old lady. Was near Harry Burrows' pub. Either that or we did a Griswolds in Germany and just went into some random person's house.

But I’ve a feeling it may have moved to there from somewhere else🤔

Always stayed away from Burslem pubs in my youth, not for the obvious reason and getting threatened as recognised as a Stoke fan but hated the place, ugly women, clampet looking lads and generally it’s a dump. Don’t mind the leopard and the titanic pub now but at a push

I only remember the Texacana as was left waiting for a date there for about an hour and gave up so decided to load myself with cocktails. Anyway she turned up and apologised because she was waiting for Nelson Mandela to be freed live on TV. She had no idea who he was a week before he was released and started going on about what a great moment it was etc etc....more cocktails please.

It's near the King's hall but on the main ring road around Stoke Town. You can still see the logo in this street maps thingy: google maps.Notice the word Harry's in the bottom of the window. Has been closed for around 10 years, after going down the shit-night-club-route. I could have told them that's a wank idea, but hey let them have a go. It saddens me so many Stoke buildings are just not used, yet so many homeless on our streets. It's such a shit state we live in.
