I've been listening on the news for some time now to the daily misery coming out of Australia with the continuing bush fires but I hadn't quite realised until I saw the map of the country on the BBC site that the whole of Australia is affected. What a terrible predicament the country finds itself in it sounds like weather conditions have conspired to bring about this truly awful situation. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-50952253Scroll down to the bottom of the article to see the map.

It's awful. Yet the millions of animals which have perished and habitats destroyed barely gets a mention.

Yeah my heart cries out in particular for the animals, the koalas, they said they have lost a third of the population in some areas

I saw one map that showed a bush fire burning that was the size of the UK. Truly unimaginable. Puts our first half performance against Fulham in to perspective

Staggering to apprehend the intensity and speed the fires are burning and spreading at considering there are no artificial accelerants involved.

Staggering to apprehend the intensity and speed the fires are burning and spreading at considering there are no artificial accelerants involved. I think some of it is related to the cutback over a number of years of the usual backburning carried out before the bushfire season because environmentalists were opposed too it.

It's awful. Yet the millions of animals which have perished and habitats destroyed barely gets a mention. You wonder if/when/how the fires will ever stop and how the poor creatures that are left will survive as so much of their habitat has been wiped out - it's heartbreaking. Hundreds of Β£ millions from our Foreign Aid budget should be going HERE, immediately, to back-up the firefighting and help the Aussie people and wildlife - we've got to stop handing it out to facilitate space travel for already mega-rich China and India. And the rest. There should be massive international help rallied immediately for Australia - the fires are a catastrophe. --- And to think that that pathetic, loud-mouthed peabrain of a Donald Trump reckons 'Climate Change' is all fake news.

I spoke to a friend about the fires on earth the last decades.
He said it has in general always been like this, but we haven't discussed Australia in particular. He says it has nothing to do with the environment. Rather forced and caused by too many people. I don't think so.
So my question is: Has it always been like this? If no, are there any reliable reports he should read?

In Australia it is so hot that a lot of the bush dries out and becomes like a tinderbox, for hundreds of years the locals carried out controlled burning to reduce risk of big fires and then government and environment(al)ists decided it wasnt a good idea..... Even after saying that most of the fires in australia are started by arson so any link to global warming seems tenuous.

Bur the need has been great the last decades rather, caused by a thinner ozone layer.

Always love messing around with this weather map. Stick it on 'temperature', '5cm above ground', flick it to Saturday at 4am for us & go look at Australia. There are places where it's expected to reach 60c (SIXTY!) And pretty much half the country will be over 50c.

The Aussie PM makes Theresa May look empathetic.
He's getting some right shit for being a climate change denier, pissing off to Hawaii when the fires were raging, banging on about the cricket when people were having their homes torched, and generally just being a massive bellend.

FFS do the climate change folks have to hijack EVERY SINGLE tragedy to push their alarmism ? Australia will be one of the countries affected the most be climate change, and the Aussies have a PM who is in the Donald Trump mould for climate change denial. I have no idea how he's managed to get into power to be honest. They have every right to be angry when there homes are being destroyed. The average temperature in Australia has risen by 1 degree and continues to rise, that's devastating for future generations......

I'm a physicist who has worked in renewables. He's right. We're fucked. The Aussie govt are refusing to even countenance that climate change has anything to do with the country literally being on fire for 3 months. A country with almost the same land mass as the USA is on fire from coast to coast.
