Regarding McClean himself - I never got the seemingly abject hatred of him. He's certainly not my favourite player (though sadly I don't have one these days, there's none deserving), however I never thought him to be even half as bad as some claim.
He does generally put a shift in. I know there's a lot more to being a decent footballer than that, but it's important nonetheless.
I think as the team (hopefully) improves he could be a linchpin of it.

You know who his spirit reminds me of? SJW. Grit and determination in abundance, the bloke never stops trying. Mclean is also a better footballer than Super Jon (with all due respect!). Here's to hoping today could kick them all on a bit. Great to see Ryan back in marshalling the defence too. NEVER EVER COMPARE THIS PIECE OF SHIT TO SJW THIS MAN LAST YEAR CALLED YEAR CALLED STOKE FANS INCLUDING WOMEN AND CHILDREN " CUNTS " THE MAN IS VILE AND I COULD VOMIT EVERY TIME I SEE HIM WEAR OUR SHIRT But I’ll bet you celebrated the first goal and the winning goal following his corner and his never give up attitude in winning the corner?

I can vouch for this as a father who sometimes takes his young lad to meet the players as they walk in before the game. The best by far is Peter Etebo, who always stops and speaks and is very polite without the usual heirs and graces of a footballer. The next one down is McClean, who again, always stops and is polite with the fans. Jack Butland is also very good.

Genuine question - I must have missed it. “They have nothing in their whole imperial arsenal that can break the spirit of one Irishman who doesn’t want to be broken,” McClean wrote, quoting Sands. He continued: “Your abuse, your throwing things, your booing, do your worst… to the home fans that are actually educated and support me, thank you. “To the section of uneducated cavemen in the left-hand corner of the Boothen End stand that want to sing their anti-Irish song each game and call me a Fenian this and that... I am a PROUD FENIAN no c@#t will ever change that, so sing away.” So he didn’t actually call any Stoke fan a c**t. He called a section of our support ‘uneducated cavemen’ which, if we’re being honest, is a fair comment. Not that we’re any different to any club in that regard. Was he right to post that? No. Did he apologise? Yes. Personally I’d find it hard to agree entirely with his political views and affiliation. But then I didn’t grow up in Creggan. And nor have I experienced the level of vitriol and abuse he has on an alarmingly regular basis at grounds around the country. It’s a complex situation. He’s a complex individual. But personally I like him a lot. As a player and, from what I’ve seen, as a person. Hopefully he can continue to perform like he has been recently and the non-football stuff will become less significant.

I personally despise SJW's politics but it has absolutely zero impact on what I think/thought of him as a Stoke City player, same with McClean and any other player you care to mention who might have what we would subjectively would call dodgy political views. The key word being 'subjectively'.
If you want all your players to believe in exactly what you believe in, you are not going to find any football club to support. So forget it, is my advice.
This is football where people with different belief systems share the experience of playing football and working together. There is something positive about that. McClean is one the most impressive team players I have seen in a Stoke City shirt in 50 years. That says all I need to know about him.

Our treatment of the Irish people over the years has been nothing short of despicable. I would like to think that I would stand up and be counted if we were ever ever in a similar situation. As far as his football is concerned, I think that he will play a significant role in keeping us up. Well done, I say.

On McClean, anyone who still spouts hatred of him is never going to change their mind. If his commitment to his job an example, being fucked about playing left back, the fact he is obviously well liked by his teammates and managers has not won them round, as it has me, I was wrong, it's never going to happen!

We share different sides of the same coin with Religion, politics and history destined to divide us. That’s life and not just over NI.
Whatever you opinion on Ireland and the ‘troubles’ surely you can’t deny his commitment to our football club.
Some of what he showed on Boxing Day is exactly what’s been missing from the team

I’m assuming you didn’t send him a card last year? He also didn’t do what you accuse him of. In balance he cupped his ears at the last home game when scoring but apologised to fans on his second corner as he knew he’d let frustrations get the better of him. On a personal note he’s great with the kids and never refuses the photo opportunities as my son will testify. You never know what demons we carry around and therefore what drives the passion but surely we're all allowed to have our own views!

I love the blokes guts. He stands in a stadium with anything up to 20 or 30,000 bigots shouting abuse at him and he doesn't crumble. He has probably witnessed things most of those bigots couldn't even imagine and when he makes one reply, some of them go running for the tissue box and cry. It seems some of them are STILL crying. They dont have an ounce of the bollox he has.
