Is no-one going to talk about the worlds best bowler, Joe Root?

South Africa really are ‘doing an England’ here...lovely to see.

Superb day for England - particularly Root.
His coming of age as a test captain?
If the weather holds we should wrap this up tomorrow.

SA were woeful today weren't they ? That first 25 minutes by SA this morning was probably the worst bit of test cricket I've ever seen from a batting side (England included !).
England are seeming to be turning into a better team (or maybe it is because it's "only" SA) and Joe Root's performance was a definite high point - excellent bowling figures.
Hopefully we can finish this off tomorrow - looking good going into the final test.

Things are looking pretty bleak for South African cricket at the moment. They’re a very poor side and they’re about to become even poorer with Philander retiring at the end of the series.
It’s been a tough period for them losing the likes of Steyn, Morkel, Amla and Abbott.

It’s been a tough period for them losing the likes of Steyn, Morkel, Amla and Abbott. Not forgetting those Kolpak players plying their trade in the county championship and those players who have decided to become T20 specialists in the various leagues round the world. Of course, they are embarked on a long term project trying to make sport more reflective of their society as a whole. The problem is that causes short term pain.

Buttler has a huge job on his hands with the 1 day set up. Makes sense for Foakes to come into the test team.

Chaps I've been thinking about watching a tour have any of you been abroad for a tour and any recomendations of where is best. West Indies does appeal but I'd be interested in any alternative options. Ta. Australia if you haven't seen much of it, I did the whole 3 months of the Ashes we lost 5-0 that Trescothick came back early from amazing. Alot of people go out for melbourne / sydney tests, I didnt have tickets for all days but if you go along to the barmy pubs you can normally pick one up, dont goto Adelaide unless you like churches though I have just come back from Adelaide and was quietly impressed. Small city but ok for a few days. Having said that, if you are doing an Ashes tour there is nothing that sets it apart from any of the other big cities...other than wine I suppose. Beaches, hills etc can all be found in other places to varying extent. Adelaide is much smaller than Melbourne/Sydney but it means the good restaurant/bar areas are easily accessible - you can walk anywhere within 20mins and there is free transport within the city centre. The area around Adelaide Central Market is fine for cheap eats etc. They like their statues and the city is very well laid out. The Adelaide Oval is a smart stadium in a great location by the river on the edge of town. Ashes Series in Australia follow a fairly standard pattern which hasn't changed for a while now. Order of test matches v England is nearly always: Brisbane-Adelaide (1st wk Dec)-Perth-Melbourne(Boxing Day)-Sydney. Get yourself to Adelaide and then drive across the Nullarbor Plain to Perth about 1500+ miles away via a 90mile straight road- what can possibly go wrong?

Play underway on day 5 and we have quickly picked up the first of the four wickets we need to win this test.
But...
I think Root has missed a trick.
He should have started with Wood as well as Broad. Instead he took the ball. And has bowled a bunch of anaemic tripe that has let the batsmen get their eyes in. Which ain’t surprising as he ain’t a front line bowler. He is still playing yesterday’s game.
(Maybe he’ll pick up a wicket or two, but he’s started today on the wrong foot).

Root pissed around too much trying to get a 5fer.

All over thanks to a run out.
Great performance from England apart from the last hour which was abysmal.
Archer for Curran for the next test, no more changes needed.....

An entertaining one day morning. A good win but that last wicket partnership i hoped would make 100 but a great run out.
A lot of great performances throughout the team and deserved win.

Good to wrap up the win and go 2-1 in the series.
The bowling at the last wicket pair was shocking - scattergun approach with no real tactics. Luckily we got an excellent run out. Root was seemingly intent at getting his 5fer rather than trying the best bowler to get the batsman out.
Curran really isn't up to the job at the moment and should be replaced by Archer for the fourth test.

Happy with pretty much everything about this match. Not even fussed about the final wicket shenanigans. The victory was never in doubt, so what if Root wanted his 5-fer?
So, onto one of the fastest tracks in the world next and Rabada sitting out. Such a shame I do hope Archer is fit for this one. Archer firing in from one and & Wood from the other could be quite spectacular. Couple that with Broad's nouse & a few sharp overs from Stokes here & there. Has my mouth watering .... and the Saffers running for every bit of protective gear they can find.
Maybe Curran to miss out. Nothing wrong at all with his batting, and even though his bowling can be hit & miss he does have a knack of getting wickets & breaking up partnerships. It's horses for courses, though, and Archer ought to be much better on the pace & bounce the Joburg wicket usually gives.

I agree with you on Curran. He just ain't good enough. Ideally Archer replaces him for the next test, but I suspect they won't risk him and give Curran another shot. Overall though - an impressive win for England.

Curren is very much a reverse swing bowler and should be saved for the older ball, as quick is Archer is he needs to learn the art of bowling as for just running in and bowling fast isn't it they are both young but I think Archer still has a lot to prove.

From the noise coming out of the England camp looks like Archer will replace Wood who may not be able to manage back to back tests. Shame if that's the case as a Broad/Archer/Wood/Stokes pace attack looks excellent on paper.....

England win the toss again and will bat. Really tough first hour or so in these conditions.
Archer has failed a fitness test, Woakes for Bess the only change. 250+ would be good I see this being a low scoring game......

There are never any circumstances that justify a 5 man pace attack.

Going along very nicely until Sibley is out caught .... oh wait, no-ball. Big Vern way over the line.
Chortles mightily ...... but wouldn't be uttering a peep if I was within lashing distance of Vern or Faf .....
