I see the news is Sherrock has now dropped from the BDO and she’s now a Premier League challenger in PDC.
BDO reduced prize money for the women’s final to £8000, the men get £50,000. BDO must be on it’s arse. And the decision to move from Lakeside won’t help. Can you see anyone filling the o2 arena to watch BDO? I can’t.
They should have accepted Barry Hearn’s offer to help the amateur leagues, I think their refusal will be the ultimate downfall of the league. Grassroots darts is hugely important to develop players, PDC would have been good for it. If the BDO are happy with the current standard of the pub and county leagues/players then they can’t be helped.

Winning the BDO is like winning League One and saying you're Champions of England

If the BDO are happy with the current standard of the pub and county leagues/players then they can’t be helped. The BDO is a shambles at the moment, Chig. They've lost quite a few of their better players to the PDC. Just check out the names in the men's BDO tournament this year - it's a veritable Who's That of the darts world.
Jim Williams seeded #2 & odds-on favourite before the tournament starts. The same Jim Williams that failed even to get a PDC tour card. Richard Veenstra #3 - really? Much as I like Veenstra, he can chuck a 15-dart leg and follow it with 45, 41, 26.
The BDO lose some big names to the PDC (notably Duzza), switch venue from a good one to a soulless one they can nowhere near fill - which isn't surprising at the prices they're trying to charge - and reduce the prize money resulting in the withdrawal of arguably the biggest name in darts at the moment (Fallon Sherrock). All sounds marvellous.
And after ditching the Beeb who'd championed them for years, they've now ditched BT Sport & this year it's only being shown on those huge ratings pullers Eurosport & Quest. Superb management.
All that said, I'll still be watching it. At least in the hope that the crowd remain chanting-numpty free as it's generally always been. If the non-dart-watching, chanting tawts turn up, or Vassos Alexander and his inane commentary, they'll even lose me too.

Sounds like they've given up trying to compete, which isn't surprising as it's like comparing the SPL to the Premier League, or the Canadian Football League to NFL

A big shambles mate. And it's a shame really because though the BDO gets joked about a lot nowadays, it was an important organisation that sadly fell way behind the times when the PDC realised what was required. Aggressive marketing and training for players, big TV deals, big name players. The BDO now have none of that. Realistically who thinks of putting Eurosport on to watch the BDO? I wouldn't. It's just like Barry Hearn said the other day, in two words 'They're fucked'. They've lost arguably the biggest terrestrial TV channel in the country, then lost Channel 4, ticket sales are at a measly 15%, TV viewership has sunk. There are more watching the PDC on Sky Sports then BDO on free TV. You have to pay for Sky Sports FFS. They also got a sponsorship with Sportotal. Want to guess how much money Sportotal has brought in to the BDO? £0. And that's not made up either, they even admitted it in a letter to the players. I fully expect one last offer from Hearn to be put forward to them. It needs saving and being made into some sort of promotion and relegation system or at the very least being turned into the PDC's very own developmental darts organisation. Though, I'm no expert in how darts leagues are ran so I'm saying all this purely as someone who enjoys to watch the games.

The best thing about the BDO is that you can bet on an up and coming outsider and they have a chance to win it.

The move from Lakeside could genuinely signify the end of the BDO. Horrific ticket sales and having to contact all the players to advise them of the reduced prize fund.
Could be the final BDO world championships.

Iv'e had David Evans 20/1 Had a look but nobody really stands out this year other than Leighton Bennett, but even if not this year he looks a future world champ. He is only 14 so is less likely to bottle it on the big darts and if he goes on a run could cause an upset. He is 16/1 which is a fair price given his potential. Nick Kenny seems to be the most consistent and at 20/1 seems a bit too big and well worth a bet on form.

Funnily enough we were having a similar conversation earlier on,that having sold it's soul moving away from the Lakeside ('the home of darts...') they'd have been better served holding the World Championships in the Midlands, particularly somewhere like Stoke, which is a massive darting area,at a venue like the King's Hall or the Victoria Hall. As Bobby George recently said "You had Jollees then the Lakeside..." You could have marketed as a sort of spiritual homecoming for darts and made it much easier for fans from other strong amateur darting areas such as Wolverhampton,St Helens,Merseyside and Birmingham to attend.

Watched a bit of the BDO championship today
What a fucking crock of shit. A dead crowd, crap commentary, awful camerawork missing doubles, bizarre lighting that made the entire audience look like they were sat in darkness, and a generally bad standard of darts save for the sudden death match.
A completely soulless venue. Not a doubt in my mind that this is the last world championship. Should have brought it back to Stoke if they were leaving Lakeside.
The quicker it merges with the PDC, the better. It needs saving.

Last night were cracking matches. Decent standard too. Although the camera work remained unremittingly awful. My guess is they still have Eric Bristow doing their spotting and haven't realised he died 2 years ago.
And this is quality. Put your sound on for best effect

Andy Hamilton stock has fallen massively from runner up in PDC to going out second round in BDO.

Some very good matches in the last couple of days and to a high standard. Harms v. Harrysson was teriffic, as was Harms v. Waites. Agree on the camerawork and the score board isn't updated quickly enough. Far too often a player is throwing for a double to finish and the scoreboard is 3 darts behind. Shame they moved from the Lakeside. It's like a cemetary at the O2.
